Obscure hockey facts/stats on international level

Young Swedish Defensman Mattias Hävelid has a twin brother Hugo Hävelid, a goalie.
Both played on last Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
In the game vs Slovakia, Mattias Hävelid scored a goal, Hugo Hävelid was in the net. He received 4 goals.
Not a common thing, that twins combo D-G play in the same international game and they both had to do with goals.

OWN GOAL Hävelid vs Hävelid might be possible then in the future - that would really be pretty obscure ;)

I was thinking about that too. Also about possibility, that goalie Hävelid will score an empty net goal with assist from his brother.

Finland has only 1 GA @ 5v5 in this olympics (that being first game against slovakia)

must be somekind record..

Slovenia with 300 registered players of all ages

Produced one of the best players in the NHL

MADE QUARTER FINALS A FEW YEARS AGO

I dont think Gretzky ever won gold at any international level
-World Jr bronze
-World Championship bronze
-4th at his only Olympics
-Canada Cup is a nickel trophy
You are mad. I and anyone who knows anything about hockey, would take a Canada Cup over the world cup. Best on Best is best.

Canada Cup/World Cup is a tournament that is played "every few generations", so nobody should it take too seriously, especially not after 2016. North America U23 and Team Europe bulls*its. It's basically worthless tournament that no one cares about but canadians, just like the WJC.

Year 1987 should be taken very seriously.

Juho Lammikko has won two golds, while not scoring a single point at those tournaments

It was said by TV guy in game vs Canada:

Simon Nemec is the only one in history to play on WCH U20, WCH U18 (ok, lower division, but still), OG and WCH in one season.

He also played the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (U18) wich is not under the IIHF umbrella. In addition to that he could also play in continuation of the WJC U20 in the summer. This means he could reach 100 games played this seasons. Thats a pretty insane workload for such a young player.

In 2008 Ilya Kovalchuk went almost the whole tournament without scoring a goal until the last few minutes of the final.

Canada was 4-3 up against Russia when Kovalchuk finally scored his first goal at 54:46. The game went to OT and Kovalchuk scored the game winner at 62:42 going from zero to hero in very short order.

Sweden also had Joel and Henrik Lundqvist twins. Forward and goalie.

Canada beat Denmark 47-0 in a game at the 1949 World Championships.
Denmark then was absent from the top division (or pool) of WC until 2003. That year they met Canada again and managed a 2-2 tie.

Earlier in the tournament they defeated the USA 5-2. Those were the only points Denmark scored in that tournament. All against North American teams.

And Frans Nielsen already played in that tournament.

If the Canada Cup or its reincarnation the World Cup of Hockey want to be taken seriously internationally then they'll have to become a serious international championship event instead of a North American exhibition tournament. Having good players is only a small part of what makes a tournament successful. A competition always taking place in Canada with Canadian rules and Canadian officials including all the referees gets already the fundamentals of international sports wrong before it even comes to gimmick teams and other such issues.
