Not trading for Smith to begin with was always on the table and it's not like people didn't say it at the time.

All told, we received basically nothing to take a draft pick 10-15 spots lower.

It's not a big deal but this wasn't Drury's best work.
Looking at the whole picture, no it wasn't, I wasnt much a fan of trading for Smith either, but at least he tried to correct it. Could have been worse and him waiting till 2:00PM tomorrow and got a awful return of a 4th.

Hopefully he goes the way of Brett Howden.
Yeah FWIW I'm not saying we should all be excited about the guy. It happens he's a player I was loudly advocating for during his draft year, and I watched a lot of him, so I know he does possess plenty of natural ability. I have no idea if he'll be able to turn that ability into anything meaningful, especially given that I haven't watched him in a long time. But, if this is the type of guy who was available, I'm glad we grabbed him (or likewise, if it was a late 2nd without Brisson or an early third with Brisson, I'm good with the 3rd/Brisson option).

I liked Brisson when he was drafted and at Michigan, like 2k2 I haven't seen him much pro. For a rental, I'm fine with a former first pick and a good 3rd rounder pick. Can't hate Drury on this one.

Vegas gets better, Smith will help them

The trade had its purpose. It was the final attempt to turn lead into gold, finding the magic key, a RW for Mika and Kreider.

It just put an end to all 'Bern' like proposals, disproving negatives. Did we try a fast player, did we try a defensive player, did we try a superstar, did we try a kid, did we try 3 kids stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat? Yes, we tried it all

As we all know now, the RW for Mika, IS Mika.

We know Drury has been interested in a guy like Tommy Novak. I dont think it's out of the realm of possibility they can develop Brisson into Tommy Novak.

pretty good comp

if he's to become a 40-50pts guy, that'd be a grand slam

Othmann isnt getting you any elite talent. I think we'd be lucky to get a 25 year old 3C with playoff experience for him. Not to say I dont like him enough but he's not the type of prospect that is going to be the centerpiece in a blockbuster deal.

Brisson:
Drafted 29th overall, Son of NHL Agent Pat Brisson. This year for the AHL Henderson Silver Knights Brisson is 3rd in scoring; in 52 games has 19 goals and 19 assists with 42 Penalty minutes.

Strengths: Vision, offensive awareness, playmaking skills, and finishing ability.

USHL All-Rookie Team (2020)
  • USHL First All-Star Team (2020)
  • Big Ten Second All-Star Team (2022)

Quid Pro Quo...who is Pat"s biggest clients?

Speaking of Tommy Novak, why did he get traded for basically nothing to a team that's not even in the race? What even was that?

I'm still mad about that.

58 games of Reilly Smith and I still have no clue what type of player he is. We would call him ricecakes during the game. just devoid of any flavor.

we got him for a 2nd and 5th.

we got back a 3rd (San Jose's) and an AHLer

boring ass waste of time.

Next time, just play the f***ing kids we already got like Otter and Berard.

Our organizational depth is strong at wing. Drury targeting young controllable centers with attributes the pro scouts like (Parssinen, Brisson) is smarter than anything Gorton did when selling his players off.
When Gorton sold his players off, he went on NHL EDGE, sorted by speed, and took all the guys at the bottom of the list.

He did that at the draft too.

Great trade. Hopefully a change of scenery does Brisson good.

Looks like he's taken a pretty big step back this year, but this is still better than a pick a half-round earlier.

The move is good value, but I'm not sure it will wind up amounting to anything special in the end.

Neither did Smith's time here, so no loss.

It's nothing to cry or get too excited about.

The best thing about this deadline is they've built up some draft assets instead of spending them (other than the JT deal) and they can be moved in more impactful deals if necessary.

If Brisson works out then hats off to the scouts
