Confirmed Trade: [NYR/VAN] JT Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st round pick (top 13 protected)

There is two ways to look at this deal

1) Rangers got the clear better player in the deal so the win
2) Canucks needed to move either Miller or Pettersson and so regardless of win/lose trade Nucks needed to make this move to remove the distraction, regardless of who is at blame

Return is underwhelming but they get cap space. Definitely a retool year now for Van. The Rangers will be a seniors center soon with all these older guys locked up.. Miller doesn't get them over the top either.
Yea even though this is a win for NY they've boxed themselves into a very narrow window. They have like 2-3 years to win before they have to blow it up themselves.

Coping but not coping as if Chytil can come in and be healthy (please) as a complimentary piece, The 1st can end up unprotected in '26 (please) and Mancini means we can fire Juulsen into the sun (pretty please) then it also gives us cap space to make another move.....it's......not bad?

At least Allvin had the kindness to do it Friday afternoon and we can just drink.....

JT clashed with Pettersson, wait till he gets a daily eyeful of Zib.

Still, don’t hate it for the Rangers as much as that pains me. Chytil is too much of a risk health-wise to be the centerpiece of this deal IMO, but if he stays healthy he should be good for Van.
That's hopefully the plan, he clashes with Zibanejad and it convinces Zib to waive his clause.

$8 Million/year long-term for a guy who recently had a 100 point season is a great deal, and I don't think it's a sure-bet that Miller will fall apart just because he's 31. So many guys are still playing quite well into their 30s..

I think Canucks fans are in hard cope mode with such a staggering loss. Can they at least keep Boeser?
I assume we’ll keep Boeser now, depending on what other deals may be in play going forward.

If Van can flip that 1st then they might be able to do something this season still. But otherwise, nah

Rangers win the deal, but Canucks do okay IMO. Miller had a NMC, so it was either stay in Vancouver or go to NYR. That's what trade protection is for, and why he signed long term for $8M instead walking to UFA or getting moved as a rental.

Vancouver also saves $3.5M in cap, got some trade capital, and Mancini must be someone they think has some upside. NYR improve (unless Miller is legit a cancer, then who knows) and Canucks get immediately worse on paper, at least until they convert the 1st and spend that cap. And I guess if the fog lifts for Pettersson.
