Confirmed with Link: NYR/VAN: Carson Soucy for 3rd Round Pick from VGK trade

Maybe I'll like him better when I see him with the Rangers like I did with Borgen but this reeks of "glued to Adam Fox whether it works or not."

It's also a replacement for de Haan for literally no reason.

Soucy was paired with Borgen in Seattle. Drury likes to watch West Coast hockey. I think Miller's game is being rebuilt to a point where he and Fox will play together, now that Lindgren is gone. Schneider/Jones/Vaakanainen/de Haan is NHL defense depth like we've never had which makes me think another move is coming.

I shouldnt be shocked at the anger at this. The same complaints I heard about Vaakanainen and Borgen. We shall see. I trust the Rangers pro scouting department.
I was heavily pro Vaak when the trade happened and Borgen, honestly, has been "fine".

he's a good #5. that's fine. he's good at what he does and has his strengths. his pair with KAM is fine. I find him hardly worth a massive victory lap as a massive win for Drury. He traded for a better than average bottom pair D and that's what he got.

Soucy is just another guy that's not going to address any major issue on this defense and we will "flip for assets" next year when we could've just, not bothered?

you also can't act like a lot of the anxiety isn't coming from the fact that Soucy, most definitely (i'm willing to be wrong but I don't see it), is not here to play on the bottom pair. our left side is absolutely ripe for an "upgrade".

I don't know anything about Carson Soucy. There, I said it. I remember him from NHL 23 which was the last one I played and I thought his name was Connor Soucy but I guess it's not.

My phone refuses to recognize his name and instead replaces it with Spicy. So for as long as he's here I will probably be calling him Connor Spicy.

If they're going with Soucy-Borgen, that should be your third pair.

Keeping my expectations very low with Soucy. Healthy scratched for a game after the 4 nations.

Could be the second coming of Patrick Nemeth. With one year remaining on his deal this could be a risk, although it didn’t cost a ton.

Let’s see how the reunited pairing with Borgen works out

Can Schneider-Jones be a second pair?

His name is fun to say with a French accent

This blows. Burned a draft pick for nothing.

Worse yet, when everyone's healthy, they'll sit CDH who is better at everything.
That’s the sad part. Jones and De Haan are both better than Soucy and neither will be in the lineup while we have this bonehead who can’t make a f***ing pass playing with Fox. So tired of this team settling for garbage to play important minutes.

No but that's kind of the whole issue isn't it?

you get a guy who's by every metric incl. the eye test a bottom pair D. he's not coming here to be one. what now? we already had bottom pair D. Soucy wasn't worth the urgent upgrade.

They gave up an asset they didnt have 5 hours ago for him. They needed size and physicality on defense. They still need a puckmover. Both can be true.

Yeah I mean I understand those that don't like the trade on principle. That's fine.

But there's a whole bunch of people in here acting like babies who don't know a goddamn thing about Carson Soucy. This is a guy who has spent his whole career in Minnesota and on the West Coast and 90% of people on our board literally know nothing about him, and yet they'll piss and moan because someone on Twitter said he's shit and posted a chart. Like you said, same thing we went through with Borgen.

I know some people actually do know the player and I'm not discounting that, but I think we all understand at this point that most people on sports message boards don't know a f***ing thing about whatever their current outrage is.

This is why I keep my outrage to Igor Shesterkin.

I also don't want it to be lost that Soucy historically has been a microstats darling. The deep divers that track literal shifts have liked him for a long time (not this year). He does have something to rebound to and i'm not losing sleep over a 3rd round pick, but he's coming here immediately to play over his head right now. I think it's reasonable to find that hard to swallow considering Lindgren got two years of rope being stapled to Fox and he has half the tools Soucy does.
