GDT: NYR Player Development Camp Info

On Tolchinski, I hope everybody here who disagrees with his teams listed height has seen him or knows him personally, otherwise I would rather put my confidence in Tolchinski's team.

All of you are just a bunch of internet experts, just like me. Whatever I read or see on video. I have not seen him personally, so I go by his team stats.

And teams regularly lie about player height and weight. Player height and weight also change, and the teams don't always update it on the website. For a lot of players, especially young players, you can check 3 different sites and get 3 different measurements.

Jim Cerny saw him with his own eyes. You know who Cerny is, right? He posted that Tolchinski is 5'7" and that he is tiny. But that isn't good enough for you? I suppose you believe everything you read on wikipedia also.

I'd like to add one, you need a team that can carry a player like that too.

I don't know how many examples there is of players more or less in tha mold over the years who are great in one environment and then changes team and is much less hyped in lack of better words. Or vice versa.

Yeah, exactly why guys like Bickell worry me in free agency. Chicago gave him a great opportunity, if he plays with those guys the rest of his career he'll probably do very well for himself. Had he gone to a different team and been relied upon to replicate this post season without the supporting cast who knows what would happen.

I thought it was common knowledge that teams routinely exaggerated the height/weight measurements of their players. Additionally, as GAG noted, different sources have different measurements.

When I do the measurements in the prospect thread tables, I just go by their most recent team's listing. That's because the Rangers, Hockey DB, Elite Prospects and the team sites usually have different measurements, and sometimes vastly so.

I'll go by my eyes. Watching the highlights of the kid, and looking at pictures, he doesn't look more than 5'7". That's my height and I know what I look like! LOL.

I have to believe that if he was actually 5'9", he would have been drafted.

I see, you were the person who measured his height at the draft combine, you should know better than his junior team. What purpose does that serve them? They're not drafting him.

It actually makes perfect sense for them to exaggerate his size. It's done as a favor for him, if he was listed as 5'7 scouts wouldn't even bother to come watch.

its more than his height. geez.

hes slight too. i mean very thin. 160 lbs and 5' wateverheisbutheisdefinitelyunder5'9....

those 2 together are the reason he was not drafted.

undrafted guys like this get chances to show their stuff. if people understood the process of drafting 18yr old kids, you would realize that there is a process and standards. this kid, unfortunately, is below minimums and thus hes not projectable as a pro.

on the other hand, if he were canadian, he may have been taken late.

im hoping we offer him.

:shakehead

Being thin isn't a huge problem at that age as long as he has the frame to put on more muscle weight. At 5'7", that's obviously a huge concern. At 5'9", it would be less of a concern.

Tambellini is listed anywhere between 6'2" and 6'4" and between 160 and 174 lbs. I'd say he's just as slight, or more, than Tolchinski. But Tambellini has the frame to fill out.

Pre-draft standards: if the prospect is under 5'10" he's measured in his skates. :sarcasm:

Honestly, even 5'7" looks pretty generous.

This is one of the few times we are on the absolute same page, same paragraph, same whatever about a prospect. Lol.

Problem is everyone feels that Tolch doesn't have the frame to add a lot of weight. He also struggled with maintaining/adding weight in the past.

he is gonna be at the main camp in september.. i think he will make the Rangers at some point during the year.

If Callahan and Hagelin can't start the season, Kristo may be able to earn his place at the start of the season.

Really hope Cally and Hags are OK to go, however.
