Jooris is a very serviceable utility player. Good defensive-oriented player to have on a 4th line and an effective penalty killer. There may also be some modicum of offensive upside untapped as well.

You could do a lot worse than have Jooris on your 4th line.

Why doesn't Calgary hurry up and get those deals done so they know kind of budget they are dealing with moving forward.

Losing Jooris and Colborne for nothing is brutal.

Treliving probably didn't want them back. Their spots have been filled via free agency/within the organization.

Rangers are doing a very good job reconstructing their bottom 6 after last season. Losing Hagelin was a big blow to their PK and team speed among other things like Moore losing a step, Tanner Glass playing in general, etc. Gerbe and Jooris at 600K each is excellent value. Grabner with the speed he brings in a 3rd/4th line role at his salary is reasonable as well as he should bring what Stalberg brought but more speed and better PK'ing.

Speed and penalty kill were lacking big time last year for the Rangers and they're doing a good job addressing it. Up front and in goal I really like the team. The defense is a dumpster fire though and ultimately that's what's going to hold them back as a team battling for a playoff spot with the rest of the pack and not with the upper echelon of teams in the East (Pens, Caps, Bolts, Panthers).

one way or two way deal

What should we expect the cap hit to be around?

2-way, $600K in the NHL, $350K in the AHL, $400K guaranteed.

He was garbage.

At least 30 of those penalty minutes were useless hooking calls in the offensive/Neutral zone, he had a good rookie season, but fell back to his norm last year, so glad Treliving agrees.

Ooops... See below.

You really need to stop making things up. Jooris literally never took a single hooking call all year.

Summary of Jooris' PIMs.....

Total PIMs: 39
Goalie Interference: 4
Slashing: 2
Roughing: 6
Tripping: 8
Faceoff Violation: 2
High Sticking: 8
Boarding: 2
Fighting: 5
Holding the Stick: 2

No "Sorry, I was wrong" ? :D

Not to go off topic, but it would be hard for Staal and Girardi to be as bad as they were last year. Especially Staal. He will respond.

I think the group well rested for the first time in years, Skjei in and Boyle gone, they might not be the worst of the worst.

Let's not forget Yandle was underplayed and misused almost the entire year, so it is not as if a group were losing a traditional #2 guy for nothing.

But Gorton has already shown a much better attention to detail with these depth signings than ole' ass Sather.

Not brutal at all. Jooris is replaceable. Calgary also brought in Chiasson and Brouwer for the RW, which is where Colborne usually was. Add in Tkachuk, and there was just no room for Colborne. It would have been nice to get something, but neither player was going to fetch much at all (if anything).

That's not true at all. Why are you making stuff about a bottom 6 player? It's just a blatant lie, like that one time you pretended to be an Oilers fan. . .

Hooking/high sticking/whatever penalties in the neutral zone, I dont give a damn, he was lazy and terrible last year.
0 hooking penalties
3 high sticking penalties (one was a double minor)

In what imaginary world is that even alot? Never mind the fact people rarely consider high sticking penalties lazy.

This guy was the king of screwing up breakaways in Calgary. Hopefully he can convert for the Rags.

Generally agree but I don't really understand how Yandle was misused. The only area the Rangers didn't use him was on the penalty kill---almost all his ice time was 5v5 and power play and he had more power play time than any other D. If you take away Klein and Girardi's penalty kill time the minutes more than less even out. The Rangers did not really use Yandle like he was a bottom pairing D. And Yandle does have issues defending when his team doesn't have the puck.

Of all our D--McDonagh was the one who was all situations and got the most ice time but McDonagh is and has been the Rangers best defenseman for the last several years and IMO it's not even that close to the next guy.

Can rest help them? Sure, but rest isn't going to turn back the clock for these guys either. Staal has never really been the same player since his eye and concussion issues. He was pretty good with Stralman carrying their pairing but ever since he left he's been a mixed bag with some good and a whole lot of bad. Girardi is 32 with tons of wear and tear on his body. The game is getting quicker and he's only getting slower. Where is the offense coming from on the back end? AV's system is reliant on a good first pass out of the zone and they really only have one proven guy that can do that well (McDonagh). Klein is decent and I'm sure Skjei will be fine too. Staal and Girardi are abhorrent at moving the puck out of their zone, Holden is supposedly not too great, and McIlrath is okay.

They have too many of the same defensemen on defense. In a Tortorella block all shots type system maybe it'd be fine. Not in a quick transition type system AV employs.
