Doesn’t need to buy any. The next deal he’ll get at 29 will be for 7-8 years. Good for NYR to get out of it at 36-37 years old.

If Shesterkin can continue to put up good numbers(gaa/sv%) while playing 50 - 60 starts, then it's a good deal. Rangers d-men will have to improve and play better in front of him, or his numbers will suffer a bit.

Maybe I'm underrating Shesterkin, but that seems like not enough term for that much money given the current goalie market.

Not a bad deal at all, but it means that if Shesterkin is as good as this contract seems to imply, he's going to get overpaid on his next contract.

Or as goalies do he will regress and then they can move on, where as you sign him long term and he regresses and your stuck with an overpriced goalie.

You don't sign goalies long term in the NHL any more, they are simply too hit and miss.

The Rangers is a special case where they choose who they retain basically. Everyone wants to play there.

IDK, the contract seems fine to me? Shesterkin wasn't going to extend more than that for a few million, and long term goaltender contracts are scary.
