Confirmed Signing with Link: [NYR] F Blake Wheeler signs with the Rangers (1 year, $800k)

Always a slow and streaky scorer, he excels on the PP, not so much 5vs5 at this stage, he could do ok in mismatches skill wise.

Yeah the issue with that, Rangers run a 1-2 PP , where PP1 gets like a 1 and a half. So the 2nd unit hardly gets ice time, and they are just not very good at all.

Winnipeg Jets are really deft at knowing when to dump their Captains.

Andrew Ladd also took a big fart with his post-Jets career. :)

Every year it's taken him longer and longer to find his game. He was in a good place on the Jets where he was given every opportunity to find it regardless of how long it took. First thing I said when the Rangers signed him was "I hope he understands that he needs to be ready to go when the season starts because the Rangers won't be as patient with him". If he played top 6 minutes and avoided injury he'd probably be a very good 800k piece to have come playoff time, but it's a lot of ice time to commit to somebody who isn't performing.

Zibanejad has 1 5on5 point. So.. I mean It could be a team problem right now more than just Wheeler. It's still a low risk signing no matter how Wheeler performs.

This is silly

Zibanejad still generates chances and is clearly still a 1st line center in the league

Wheeler is toast.

red wings are doing this too and it's frustrating sometimes. Last game they used both more closer to equal and it helped.

Not sure why they do this?? Your top players get tired quicker and are on the bench for an extended time period when you are only going to score what 20-30% of the time on good-to-great powerplays?

Not unexpected we knew he was done but it's all the experts saying that the jets got worse in the off season when every jet fan knew with the trade and the buyout they got better.

He’s still skilled but I can’t name many skaters slower at this point tbh. Is he faster than Ryan Reaves? Honestly, probably not at this point. Winnipeg made the right call.
