If the Rangers trade away players like Grabner, Nash and possibly even Zuccarello who is going to play in the NHL? Sometimes it pays to have a guy who can, at the very least, stick up for his teammates should someone attempt to take advantage of them in a vulnerable position. If the team isn't going anywhere this season I have no issue playing McLeod on the 4th line and bringing up Chytil and Andersson.

If Chytil or Andersson see the NHL this year having McLeod around to answer the bell if Tom Wilson or Ryan Reaves are taking runs at them is not necessarily a bad thing. Smith stepped up on Reaves after he challenged the bench but then got his ass whipped by Oleksiak. I don't think there is another guy on our roster who would have done what Brendan did and kudos for him for walking into something for which he was very much overmatched.

McLeod does one thing, and that is fighting... I'd say that a buffalo that'll put us on the PK even more than we already are is not going to be what we are looking for. Yes, he is a veteran, and i am sure that he'll have "pearls of wisdom" to impart on our younger players... but this could hurt us far more than inserting a "career AHL'er".

On the other hand, its probably great news for the people wanting us to tank.

Some stats :

Last 3 seasons combined : 82 games played, 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points, -3 (for the people keeping track of that), and 217 Penalty minutes.

Better offensive numbers than McD

Plus, if the team does start bringing up kids to replace guys they ship out, it's very common in the NHL to want to carry a guy like this on your squad as some "protection"; even if it's more psychological than anything else.

No one is going to DETER ANYONE FROM ANYTHING if McLeod is either in or out of the lineup. Having Glass IN THE LINEUP didn't deter Simmonds from clocking McDonagh or Byfuglien from cross-checking Miller.

My first thought was that his cap hit would be buried in the minors, but since Nashville has an internal cap I suppose that’s a valid line of thinking. Maybe Gorton is throwing him a favor ahead of the TDL? Then again, it’s weird to think that Poile’s buying power is so stringent that $800,000 divorced from the cap would be a meaningful amount for wiggle room in this line of business.

First of all I'm sorry that your GM is wasting a roster spot on him. Cody is absolutely terrible. I have not seen a worse hockey player in the NHL in my life.

Second of all Nashville doesn't have an internal cap and haven't for years. The waived him because they don't have a roster spot available for when Forsberg comes off in the next week or so.

IMO, if Wilson or Reaves are going to take runs at them, they're going to do it with or without McLeod. It's been shown time and time and time again - fighters do not deter dirty players from playing dirty. It just doesn't happen.

If we want someone out there to do that kind of thing anyway, I have to imagine we could get someone who can play passable hockey for a pretty low price rather than continuing to insist on playing guys who really struggle with the actual game in order to have someone who can punch someone else on the ice.

Hey so they sent down Catenacci, so if it's McLeod over Catenacci, who cares? They both suck, so it's nothing. I honestly don't care about this move, the team is going nowhere, shuffle the deck chairs on the sinking ship, whatever. I'll only be bothered by this if he ends up playing over someone like Lettieri as the season swirls down the drain. And as far as the "Why not call up someone?" goes, other than Nieves, there's really not anyone down there deserving of a call (I'm excluding Chytil and Andersson for various reasons). Tambellini sucks, Gropp has been garbage, and the guys that haven't been total cesspools like Fogarty, Fontaine, and Leedahl either aren't ready or are fringe players in their own right.
