He is his own man. my brother lives in Tampa, but I don't envy him. Millions of people love the Tampa area- its beautiful. It is just I am not one of them.
Fair enough I'd imagine you arent the only one that feels the same way. Toronto has a ton of appeal, they'll always be one of the top destinations in the league, but due to taxes they'll usually have to pay more for players than States without income taxes.

Since you guys think this all issue is just because of Nylander greed, as yourself a simple question: do you think he would ask for more or less money if he his contract would contain one more year of UFA and one less of RFA?
Afterall you guys think he is a greedy guy....
First off where did I insinuate that he was greedy? Nylander is a player who is looking to get paid as much as he can for the job he does. It's no different than anyone else who works. Comparatively the Leafs want him to sign the contract they have before him as they own his professional rights. There's no villains here, it's a negotiation.

As for your question RFA and UFA years will always have different values with UFA years always being more costly. No one should be debating that. Determining what Nylander's RFA and UFA years are actually worth is another question.

Remember you pay the taxes of the city you play in. So tampa players only get half of the games with Florida tax applied.

Then consider the fact all players get paid in USD so those that play for Canadian teams buy houses, cars, etc in Canadian dollars so your money goes like 30% further.

I personally think the leafs need to either sign or trade Nylander; they can’t lit him sit. This is a huge year for Toronto, obviously not their only chance to win the cup but they have Marner and Matthews for a million against the cap, they have to use nylander as an asset for the team or trade him. When they signed Tavares I thought Nylander was gone, probably can’t afford him long term.

It depends. This is one of those issues you have a million arguments for either side. Depending on the city, similar housing could be a lot more expensive in the Canadian markets (I know Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary are all very expensive housing markets), Miami's a pretty expensive housing market, but Tampa and Boca Raton are cheaper, and a lot of basic products are even with a tough exchange, is cheaper in the States than in Canada.

Go see what 750k American gets you in Boca Raton vs. 1 mil Canadian gets you in Toronto. The Boca Raton property in general is nicer.

Yes I'm aware they pay the taxes of the state they play in. From everything I've seen/read/and heard from friends who have lived in both Canada and the US there isn't a sizeable benefit to buying most things in Canada. You don't buy a pickup truck for 40k in the States and get it for the same 40k in Canadien currency. Things like gas and clothing are 100% more expensive in Canada. In the end there isn't some significant benefit to taking your US dollar to Canada and buying things or people from the US would be doing it all the time. Instead it's traditionally Canadiens coming to the US to get better deals on things (although this has slowed some as the values between our 2 currencies has widened).

USD does obviously go a bit further in Canada....there are life style considerations as well. You won't get great weather in Canada minus Vancouver which is gorgeous. I'll say this though, if you have kids....how would you feel being in the States? The mass shootings would trouble me.

Non-issue for most people I think. It's certainly become a more common occurrence, which is making it an issue that has to be addressed, but the odds of it happening and directly involving you and/or a loved one are really so minute.

I actually prefer the cold over the heat so Id choose Toronto, but theyre definitely still bitter
I agree nicer weather is relative. For me, I want a white Christmas, I love the fall, I enjoy the spring thaw. I don't need Toronto per se, I prefer Bancroft. But the weather argument doesn't do anything for me.

Cause Matthews is back and raps beat warriors?
Toronto is most definitely on a very short list of great cities in NA once you get past NYC and LA. Next up is a grouping of Toronto, Chicago, Houston & San Fran/Bay Area. Coming from a guy who has travelled NA quite a bit and currently lives in BC, but is from Toronto. There’s a reason nba players rank it as a top city to visit and refer to it as “white Vegas”

I was being lighthearted. It must be heady times in Toronto sports fan land the last two days.

What does it mean “White Vegas”?

Adding- I am particularly fond of the Bay Area.

White Vegas cause it’s usually cold during nba season, (nhl too) but you can definitely have a hell of a time there. The strip clubs are incredible and there’s always a party to be had.
+1 for the Bay Area. If I ever left BC the Bay would be among my top picks of relocation spots.

I have family in bc. Are you in the lower mainland? Probably. Smaller chance for the interior I guess. Or I could be entirely off.

I’m in the east Fraser valley, so yeah lower mainland. It’s quite the beautiful place and as far as options in Canada I’ll take the winter here over anywhere else
