Borderline insulting? Damn man, I'm trying to defend Pelech here and you are making it hard. It's not an insulting offer, just ignorant of NYI's current situation. If NYI didn't have a hole at LD, it would be pretty fair value, although I still think Pelech is worth more.

I would trade Muzzin no question. I'd take the 2nd alone, tbh.
I don’t think Pelech for Nylander is fair value. Pelech is one of the few premier shutdown defensemen in the entire NHL. Nylander is a nice piece but is not even close to the rarity that Pelech is.

I can see Muzzin for a pick being an option if NYI is confident in his health (concussions) but he wouldn’t be my first choice.

I don't think it's equal either, but calling it insulting feels like the common "I like my players" homerism we find in sports. Anyways, I don't think we will agree, and with their contract status', the deal becomes even more far fetched.

Reminder that Nylander isn’t signed long term and is an unrestricted free agent at the end.

I’d like to add him but not giving up 7 years of Pelech for him.

Would trade the 13th overall pick though.

Nylander scores some big goals and has a lot of talent. But, the GM is going to really have to like Nylander’s upside to trade their best defenseman for him. If TOR wants Pelech, they are going to have to pay more for him. Might want to include Knies in that.

While Pelech is a very good defenseman, perhaps a hair below elite, he is also signed to an incredibly team-friendly contract. I just don't think Nylander is worth as much as Pelech in a cap world. With that contract, Pelech is a player who is very unlikely to be moved under most circumstances. It would take one piece worth more than Nylander to make it work (not simply adding to him as a baseline). He's just too valuable at a $5.75M AAV.

Who is trading an 80 point player for a shutdown dman. Leafs weakness isn't even on defence.

It's literally a Hall for Larsson replica lol.

Leafs say no.

please trade your #1 defenseman on a great contract for our soft one dimensional winger.

nylander would also only score like 55-60 points on the islanders so what’s the point. a player like him needs to be buried in the lineup so the better players can take the tough match ups while he scores some easy ones against lesser competition. if he is on your top line you are f***ed
You are clueless lol

In a vacuum I think most would assume Nylander is worth more. He isn't though, at least to the Islanders. Not only is Pelech one of the best shutdown men in the league on a really good contract for years, he also makes his partner better.

Isles easily pass, even if it's for the one type of player they're sorely lacking and desperately need.

Which Pelech? Adam isn’t going for Nylander. Lou can sign his brother Matt though and trade you him instead. It’ll be just like getting Blake Kessel or David Toews.

I don't think Nylander is worth more in a vacuum if you consider contracts. Nylander is 6.9 for two more seasons. Pelech is 5.75 for 7 more seasons.

Would make the islanders worse. Pelech is a terrific dman

Bingo. If you assign Pelech a rating on a 1-10 scale based purely on what he does on the ice, you have to add 1 or 2 to the number based on his contract and what it allows you to do elsewhere in the lineup.

This is the type of move that the Leafs should be pursuing. Good value on paper though I don’t see the Isles doing this he’s too important for them. Had they held onto Toews maybe a different story.

I’m wondering if there’s a potential multi player swap with a forward and dman each going each way that makes this work for the Isles? (Illustrative purposes only)

Nylander+ Muzzin + Robertson

Pelech+ Beauvillier+ depth player/pick
