Post-Game Talk: Nylander and Shootouts get Leafs 2 points Vs Flames

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Our biggest concern is defense. We can blame our goalies all we want but we do not have one top 4 defender who is capable of clearing the front of the net or making it hard to get to the front of the net.
Teams know how to beat us by now. Put the puck on net and then go hard for a rebound.
Calgary first goal was misplayed by Woll. He stopped the puck with his pad but the puck rolled into the curve of the pad that goes over the skate right to opposing players stick.
Zadorov goal Brodie screened the goalie. Block the shot or get out of the way.
Last two goals Woll makes original save and three flames are allowed to fight for the rebound and score without being knocked down or taken out of the play.

We need two big stay at home knock you on your ass defensmen

We have 1 more regulation win than SJ, MTL and Edm. Pretty bad company.

Big game Woll baby .. big game Woll .. Willy and Woll got us 2 points last night .. da 2 W's .. 3 goals against were on our D and 1 was on Woll but he played lights out when needed .. that is what we need a big game tender . our D got a little better last night with McCabe back .. anytime you add an NHL D to help Rielly it makes a little difference .. when Lily comes back it will make another difference .. but we still need 3 more D before playoffs .. hopefully Klinberg stays on LTIR rest of season .. that is only way he helps us out this year .. like Gio and Brodie he is washed

I don't mind adding Zadorov, but we have to be smart with that investment in the next blueliner and Zadorov probably won't be the most cost effective solution. Like essentially paying premium on an Ilya Lyubushkin.

Instead I'd point at Hampus Lindholm and the way he has rejuvenated the Bruins on defense or even the Ekholm trade to Edmonton, which was great for them last year. Didn't really cost the Bruins or Oilers too dearly compared to the McCabe trade. If you're going to shell out a 1st, maybe a 2nd, a prospect and a cap dump you might as well get something heavy duty that solves the blueline picture for a number of years.
Ek is likely the model to follow given they dumped Barrie in the process and we'd need to include Kling. Good year to do it with some cap freeing up on D this summer

Guys in here talking about Zadorov like he is the second coming of Chris Pronger. He would be absolute dog shit for us. We need an Alex Pietrangelo type defenseman. Zadorov lol.... screw that turn coat.
Why is he a turn coat? Because he requested a trade?

As impressive as Styles was tonight. AS good as Robertson looked on the third line. The most impressive thing tonight was the LEAFS actually taking a roughing penalty. The LEAFS roughing someone? This is rare.

That was a make-up call for the missed goal.

Wouldn't even have been noticed if it happened on TTC.

If you expect Zadorov to fix the team's defensive issues I have a bridge to sell you.

Happy with the win, it was fun.

But it was 4-1 ... and they had to squeak by to get 2 points. Nice to see the depth come up. Hopefully Domi getting that winner gets him going more offensively. That line keeps doing well.

One brick doesn't a wall make, but you don't make a brick wall without individual bricks.

Replace crumbling bricks or you'll eventually lose your wall.

Leafs have one Woll but he needs help.

Replace the crumbling bricks and help him out.

Gio cannot be back next year, and Brodie cannot be back at his price point.

Defenders I'd take from Flames, my choices:

Andersson - 27
Hanifin - 26
Zadorov - 28

Who is realistic?
Who has an expressed an interest?
Who is realistic and potentially will fit in with Cap hit if extending?

I know some people are going to say 33 going on 34 (next month) year old Tanev.
And do you have interest in extending him at 35 years of age?

I thought the game was much closer than it should have been to be due to a few bad bounces.

Overall, the team played much better defensively and Woll rebounded nicely.

Has anyone been able to find a replay of rielly’s non-goal?

I’ve watched the clip a few times, if the puck didn’t go in, something (maybe the knob of the goalies stick?) caused the net to pop on that side as if the puck struck it.

Quality of video is just not good enough to track the puck on the broadcast feed

In the old days, we would be 3W 5L 6T. Not sure how respectable but I get your point.

God I hate loser points. Just call the games ties, and play a 10min OT to see if there can be a winner.

I walk away once the shoot out starts, it’s just a tie to me. I don’t care about what happens in a shootout and I don’t enjoy watching them at all

That was a make-up call for the missed goal.

Wouldn't even have been noticed if it happened on TTC.

Quick whistle with an uncovered Puck results in Kadri goal called back.

McCabe make up penalty results in a Nylander SH goal on that call

That is a +2 goal swing for Toronto. :)

If both plays resulted in correct calls Leafs are not even playing into extra time, starring down a 5-3 loss.

Sometimes you have to be lucky to be good.
