Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I am a Willy fan but ever since he got hit a few weeks back he has been playing scared. That really rattled him.

He knows and will try to come back to the new normal. With no help from the coach it seems. The thing is. He should never ever be on the third line. Some people act as if Tavares is way better and deserving to be on the second line. He is not, despite current point streek.

The real season for the core 4 begin
Nylander needs to perform. He needs to be one of the best players in the series, this better not be another boston where he has 1 good game or tampa1 where he starts playing from game 4. Need production in the ozone and he average play in the dzone, don't be a liability

to be fair you can make one for every one of our guys. Tavares would be 4 empty nets he's missed. Marner would be the delay of game penalties. Matthews would be him gettting ragdolled

He's the only lack of effort one though. It hurts more to me. But for sure they're all on the clock. Claude Julien today says these guys have to show a level of play with adversity, he nailed our inability to get out of comfort zone.

Borderline third line guys get NMCs and NTCs over the summer now. GMs have essentially signaled they don't value taking a firm stance on it.
When guys like Kampf are getting clauses, they're not going to put up a fight when a star asks for something similar

Same for me, it's clearly something many players value, it has value to the team and has value to the player and IMO some GM's they throw it away like it's worthless old candy. If a player wants to stay bad enough, that player will value the NMC/NTC enough that they will take a hair cut. If they don't value it then take the full ticket but you are not getting a NTC/NMC. It can't be both it has no value but I have to have it to sign here.

Sorted by TOI (least to most), some of these players at one time were great players but that in it self underlines how risky it is to hand out NMC/NTC which lock you into a player regardless of their performance.
Marner will get fully exposed these playoffs. Its the Bruins, they know how to handle him. They may even have to play him with reeves so he doesnt get scared and stay 20 ft away from everyone.

Marner has more playoff points against the Bruins than anyone on the team. More likely people who dont know what they are talking about get exposed through hot takes like this.

Yeah especially when they’ve never delivered in the playoffs. I’m a big Nylander guy but his reputation for showing up in the playoffs is relative to expectations and other big guns disappearing. He hasn’t been that great.

Marner’s big problem is Game 6 and 7 production, elimination game moments.
I haven't seen anyone post the final numbers yet for the season, so here goes:
Before signing the extension this year:
37 games, 21 goals, 33 assists, 54 points, +5, (20:16 ice time per game)
(47 goals, 73 assists, 120 points, +11) over an 82 game pace
Since signing the extension:
45 games, 19 goals, 25 assists, 44 points, -4 (19:38 ice time per game)
(34 goal, 46 assist, 80 points, -7) over an 82 game pace
Just the raw numbers. Maybe it has to do with how productive his linemates were, maybe other factors were involved. But from the day he signed the extension, his pure production is down significantly.
FYI over the same time period, Marner and Matthews production was up since that date, Tavares points were down but his goal production went up.

He hasnt had a game 6 or 7 in 2 years.
2 years ago, game7, the leafs scored 1 goal and Marner had 1 point.
In game 6, he didnt score but lead all forwards including Tampa in xg%.
Leafs got 3 goals and lost in OT. Not sure why their loss is on him. There is a bit of gaslighting when assigning blame on him.

It's worth noting The pre-post signing scoring comparable gets distorted by the final 10 games when he was definitely in a scoring slump. The 30ish games post signing his rate wasn't that below what he was scoring before.
The end season slump likely down to a few things, bad luck, bad effort some games (especially during low stakes games), finding chemistry with some line experiments.
Ovver the years his focus definitely dips when there's not a lot at stake. Usually either a mid or end of season dip when playoffs have been a lock ect.
