Another back to back this weekend?

Absurd
Good news that's it's until end of February.

These are professional athletes, and the second game is against one of the worst teams in the league (with both games at home). There is no reason to complain about the schedule.
Tell that to the players and coaches who complained about it. Our schedule has been stupid, recall the long breaks in games prior, it's been an asinine calendar all year.

If it were balanced then you are correct.

But the Leafs lead the league in back to backs this year, quite often playing a team that is reated. Pro athlete or not, it leaves you at a disadvantage.

Yeah it’s not that big of a deal. Sure they have the short end of the stick, but I would assume some teams have worse travel distance and schedules over the course of a season as well. I don’t think I should have to work back to back days as well.

Big travel weekend for the Leafs this weekend. They have to...drive (pr in some cases walk or subway) to the arena. My heart bleeds.

If it doesn’t matter then give all our back to backs to other teams
Ottawa has 13 back to back games. Tampa has 12. Florida has 13. Montreal has 15. Carolina has 14. Toronto has 14. NYR has 14. LA has 13 and travels across the continent. Again, cry me a river. The schedule is the schedule. If that's the excuse for losing, then the team deserves to lose.

Leafs have more back to backs than anyone in the league aside from Carolina in the NHL. So we do have a reason to complain. Especially when they all seem to be travel B2B’s and not just a 2 game home stand. Winnipeg has half the back to backs that we do.

The wussification of pro sports. Imagine having to work 2 days in a row. If they play 3 more back to backs than a team, thats like one every 2 months. I agree it should be more equal, but it’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I guess people will grab on to anything for an excuse

I hear what you are saying but the body takes a beating playing a physical sport. Its why they play football once a week.

Pro athletes work a lot on their days off from playing.

Still can't use their schedule as an excuse. The number wouldn't be so high with the 4 Nations.

It will happen again during the Olympics year

It’s easy for us to be game ready on a back to back but a little different if you have to play the games.

I think the time to complain would have been in the summer while these schedules were being drawn up. If I’m MLSE I’m fighting to get those travel B2B’s down because I want the competitive advantage and preferential treatment.

Not sure if the players are complaining, but these guys should go work construction or roofing for 10 hours a day, that’s taking a beating. Do it 5 days a week or more for literal peanuts compared to what these guys are paid to play a sport.

It's not about players being wimps, it's just annoying because its a statistical disadvantage and even moreso it elevates the risk of injury on top of an already absurd 82 game schedule that can't even be played at 100% hockey.

Ya but living and playing in Winnipeg is more punishment then any human being can handle

That’s assuming MLSE cares about winning. It’s all about jersey sales

These are two separate things. It's not construction workers working 10 hours/day vs. construction workers who got a day off the day before. Not really comparable. And it has nothing to do with fair wages or pro athletes complaining about working too hard either.

Hockey is like any sport where any advantage for one side can tilt the result. So when a team is playing a B2B and their opponent for the 2nd game is rested it gives the rested team an advantage.

So if any team is facing that situation more than their rivals then yes, it means they are at competitive disadvantage and nothing more.
