4 years is really good. Should have no issues performing like a $5m player for the entirety of the deal.

More than likely will get a full season with Lee and Barzal too, wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 30 again.

They better hope his numbers look more like the playoffs then the regular season. Otherwise this could really bite them.
Aside from his recent down year shooting far below his career S%, he's been a remarkably consistent 20+ goalscorer. He'll be fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he was not playing # 1 PP time with the Isles. If he doesn't sticks there, it could be a problem.

I imagine Eberle's absence gives him a spot.
I imagine so. I expect him to be the Eberle replacement in the top6.

Seems okay, he should be worth it for at least a few of those 4 years. He might get bumped to 3rd line duties at some point during that contract though and 5M for a 3rd liner seems a bit high.

Pretty much a perfect contract for both sides. I'm happy for Palms, miss him a ton in NJ. Was as good of a soldier as you could have asked for during his time here.

Under the radar, one of the best producing RWs in the game heading into last year. Think the weight and uncertainty of the contract talks along with the abbreviated camp and COVID didn't do him any favors. I think he'll bounce back to his consistent regular season form with ease.

Palmieri essentially replaces Eberle. Less years and less money and Palmieri is a much better fit.
In Free agency we usually see 6-7 years. For Lou to get Palmieri at only 4 years is a huge win and low risk.

How is this less years than Eberle?

I will never understand the Isles takes on Jordan Eberle. Dude was an absolute beaut for you guys.

This is the best AAV/years combo I expected. Even if he doesn't score quite as much as Eberle, he will make a lot more space. Also, we didn't get to see Barzal/Palmieri much last year because Eberle needed that spot to be effective. But the few times they got together in the playoffs were productive.

If he goes back to the KP of old this is fair but good lord he was bad last year. A 34 point/82 game pace.

He did look better in the playoffs though but I still didn’t see the KP of old. It’s been an odd two years for everyone so perhaps some normalcy and an 82 game season he can get back to where he was full time.

1. Eberle was only effective in only one spot in the lineup.
2. Eberle needed to play in the same spot on the PP as Barzal
3. Eberle was a much better player with Anders Lee than without him (because he can't win any battles)

It's about fit. Palmieri is more versatile.

Who knows, maybe Wahlstrom ends up on Barzal's RW. Even so, Palmieri is still effective elsewhere.

Yeah, I think Palmieri has been a very good player, but I didn't really see much from him last year or even in the playoffs. He had a good series against Boston. One solid individual effort in the Penguins series, but the other two goals were just Jarry absolutely blowing wind.

Is he? He's a power play specialist that can chip in some goals. Is that what the Isles need?

It comes down to goals with him plain and simple. Every other part of his game has become less and less effective with each passing year. Last year it looked like he lost his goal scoring touch but it came back around in the playoffs. If he scores goals like he can it’s a good contract. If he doesn’t it’s a bad one.
