barry's eyes didnt exactly light up during his post camp session interview in regards to questions about bellows .

I think he's either traded for a mid round pick or slides through / gets claimed during the waiver wire process .

my guess is panik / dal colle earn the 13/14 depth spots .

This would be even funnier if he spelled it "Brian"

Why does Dal Colle suck, and why was he highly touted? Big strong with a great shot, why didnt he gwt it? Doesnt seems to be a bad attitude or charachter issue?

Definitely not a character issue or lack of work ethic. He’s always worked hard and done exactly what’s been asked of him.

He does have a heavy shot, but almost never gets it off due to lack of foot speed. He could get away with it in junior but he’s just not fast enough to create space in the NHL.

Not at all. Seems very likable. His teammates like him from everything I read. Works hard. Responsible defender. Big, Good on the boards. Just doesn't score. Besides the lack of speed he's never in the right place it seems in the Offensive end. Always just misses or gets there a second late or too early. Perhaps his "Hockey IQ" just isn't there. The ultimate minutes' eater who doesn't score in a bottom 6 role.

Bellows is in an interesting position. He has the potential to be a top 9 player in the NHL, problem is the Isles are very deep on the wing this year. When Komarov, Panik, Johnston are on the outside of the starting 12 fwds, that tells you how deep the Isles are on the wing. Bellows is also not waivers exempt this year according to Capfriendly, so the Isles need to keep him or trade him IMO. He will get picked up and rightfully so if the Isles try to slide him through waivers.

He accelerates like a cannonball trying to roll uphill on its own power. Also, I'm pretty sure in his entire tenure with the Islanders, he's never actually scored a goal by shooting the puck.

That to late or to early part seems reasonable. What a situation.

Hope Yzerman to pull this guy out from waivers.

If Isles can't find a spot for him, he will from elsewhere.

Would be an astute move. I think he can play. For whatever reasons, Trotz has been slow to warm on him. This is the reason why I think he will be traded or kept on the roster. The Isles will expose Komarov, Dal Colle, or Panik first IMO. I don't think they would expose Johnston, I just have a feeling Lou likes his tough guys that can play on the 4th line.

I could even see waiver-exempt Wahlstrom go down for the first days, and wait for the 1st injury to happen... and keep Bellows up. Because he has positive value as an asset, and guys like Panik have zero - no negative or positive value.

That's an angle that did not occur to me, I think Wahlstrom is Trotz's teacher's pet. Like Dobson is. I don't see this, but it is a potential move if you want to keep them all. It's weird, but the Isles are too deep on the wing this year. Not a bad circumstance to have for a team.

Exactly this. I saw him a lot in Portland. All he has is that shot and he doesn’t have the ability to create on his own at the NHL level. He benefited from his line mates in Pdx big time

Funny thing is I was answering a poster who asked about Dal Colle, but it applies perfectly to Bellows as well lol

Someone hit on it earlier. Bellows needs to be a top 6 forward or he is not going to fit due to his flawed defensive play. If that is the case and he needs to play to get better and not sit in the press box, then who is he going to replace? I am just surprised he was not part of a trade package earlier this summer.

This is Trotz sticking to his form of him needing to trust a player at both ends of the rink. Since he is still here he is given another chance and perhaps a good depth forward to have but I don’t think Lou will keep him much longer if this kid can’t replace someone in the lineup.
