He can still probably be a steady bottom pairing presence. Can play both sides. He's 35 and has suffered some pretty tough injuries in recent years though. Shouldn't expect much more than 15-18 minutes of unspectacular play. Tough as nails. Can't go wrong at $1M. Almost no risk.

I think he kind of rested on laurels a little bit this past season. Just a little too comfortable. Getting bought out may have been a wake up call. Needed a change of scenery anyway.

He's going to come into the season as the #7-8 defenseman. No chance he beats out Pulock on the bottom pairing.

Great, cheap signing by the Isles. Wish the Sens signed him on these terms.

Isles are going to be just as good this year as last.

Good deal. Adding a cheap vet as insurance if the kids are not ready. And when they are thru the season, you can always trade him.

As an Islanders fan this signing tells me one of 2 things. Either the Boychuk injury is worse then reported or they have 0 faith in Scott Mayfield being the #7 guy

It could also mean that GMG is thinking of a 2-1 trade with Mayfield being one of the two to upgrade the offense some more.

Scott Mayfield = Sweetener????

No.

He got a one-way contract due to his presence in the Washington series and the fact that he might play NHL minutes but not regularly. The Isles will have no problem shuttling him back and forth from the Bridge to Brooklyn and (I doubt) teams are going to want a 600k one-way contract for a player they know can't break their top 6.

Once you get around Hickey, you are home free. Slowest dman on the team. Good must be different from fast.

Hickey is indeed the worst skating d-man on the Isles, I have no idea where this idea that he's a good skater comes from. Could it be that people assume he is because he's a smurf? Not the case at all. He's smart as hell though, that's why he's in the NHL because he certainly doesn't have the tools.

Most likely the first but also that Snow has learned his lesson and knows that injuries will take its toll during the season. Come playoff time and the teams are always patched up and having someone like Seidenberg to stick in the lineup instead of Mayfield or Pelech or Burroughs or someone else off the AHL roster is a massive upgrade.
