Kessel for Kravtsov straight across, no retention.

Rangers sit 22nd in 5-on-5 scoring, weakest among current playoff position teams. Kessel would be 5th in scoring among Rangers forwards, but specifically Kessel's 5-on-5 scoring would help an area of weakness without detracting elsewhere.

For Kravtsov, a fresh start in a low intensity market like Arizona where there will be plenty of playing time and opportunities might be attractive.

The Coyotes have lots of picks and really should be looking for a few prospects as returns at the trade deadline. Coyotes are in a place where they can take on the risk with Kravtsov, where the Rangers may want to cash out his value and use it to improve for a playoff run.

Phil the Thrill takes on the Hot Dog Stands of New York. (And maybe wins another Stanley Cup)

You guys have a lot of UFAs upcoming and the new of where they will ply etc. I think getting some prospects is important as you say. Picks next yr probably works but bodies for 22-23 is important wouldn't you agree. With Krav, wouldn't you be worried he refuse to come to the desert? He's been a bit of a child when given an assignment he does not like.

It's a risk, but one the Coyotes can take on because they don't intend to be competitors next year. If Kravtsov refuses to sign an RFA contract, it's the equivalent of Kessel walking in the off-season. They've apparently been asking for a late 2nd for Kessel. I think Kravtsov, with his risk and all, is probably worth about a late 2nd right now.

Besides, I like our new coach and the work he's done with younger players thus far. I think there's a decent chance Kravtsov could come to the desert and find his rhythm.

22 year old recent top 10 for a 36 year old?
nope
NYR are NOT in full go-for-it mode, their window is just opening, they are not yet a top ~6 Cup contender, they don't have that level of urgency

Didn’t you get the memo? Krav’s value is a top 10 pick at the moment. It’s set at his draft status until he gets a meaningful chance to play. Until then, teams must pay what the Rangers used to acquire him.

Sarcasm btw

Does Kessel get a 2nd in this market?

If Kravtsov could be had for a 2nd he'd be gone already.

Arthur Staple wrote about this earlier in the week. The asking price on Kessel is apparently a mid-round pick, and no one is paying it. I'd gladly give up a 3rd for Phil to improve our scoring depth, but I don't think the Rangers will be interested in paying more than that. If they're moving Kravtsov, which they probably are, they'll either try to find a one-for-one prospect swap or add him as a piece in a larger deal.

What we're hearing about the Rangers, version 2.0: Trade targets are emerging, but how realistic are they?

Phil Kessel
Call this “Plan K.” Sources indicate that Kessel, still plugging away in Arizona, has been available for weeks for nothing more than a mid-round pick, with the Coyotes willing to eat half of his $6.8 million cap hit. He has 33 points in 50 games, and his status as a less-than-enthusiastic team player is pretty overrated.
If Kessel is still sitting there as the minutes tick down toward the deadline on March 21 and the Rangers are still in need of top-six help on the right side, maybe they make a call. But likely not before then.

I disagree. You guys are unexpected there! A year early from most takes. Your cap space blows next yr, get a hired merc and go. I mean as a Devs fan , DON'T! But giving up some prospects to win has got to be a green light for Dolan!

Kessel might not get a 2nd in this market because 10 of 32 of the 2022 2nd round picks have already been traded and the Coyotes already have 5 of them. Teams can't trade us a 2nd if we already own all of the 2nds! :naughty:

i get what you're saying,
but NYR are a notch, or 2, below Avs, Tampa, Canes, Fla and Flames, maybe also Knights, Wild, Leafs, Pens
I am willing to improve, but not spend a high-upside asset for only Kessel rental. AZ adds future-ish piece, and i can accept.

NYR have been on both sides of rental deals last ten years, so i have some strong ideas about all this, [ right or wrong 8^) ]

And Kessel was picked even higher, and has more years of development, so clearly he's completely untouchable. That's how hfboards works, right? Since nobody said "negative value" then he's obviously untouchable due to having any value at all.
