In general, sure. But what's not to understand about this move? Trotz is familiar with him and he's actually a decent player when he's on the ice. Probably going to trade more players and you still have to ice a team. Might as well try him out, maybe sign him cheap for next year.

He did and it didn't work out hence why he may have said f*** it and decided to clean house.

In a way, it did work out. Being a middling team was the worst case scenario.

He tried to compete, but wound up getting a good pick for 2025 and future assets in trades. He kind of failed upward. Now they have some vets to insulate the youth and hopefully soon, a new coach to develop the youngsters.

Though mistakes were definitely made, potentially huge ones. (Saros/Askarov) But it could be worse
