Confirmed Signing with Link: [NSH] Matt Carle (1 year, $700K)

I have no sympathy for Carle ... he didn't put the work in the off-season. He got fat and lazy on his UFA contract and just didn't care. These type of guys shouldn't be picked up and given any further contracts ... Lightning had to buy him out and he gets another contract. There should be some kind of GM unwritten law about giving these type of guys a second chance. Destroys a team's cap room, gets lazy on his contract, gets a huge buyout and then no worries ... I'll try again cause now I have another contract to sign. Its a disgrace.

He's occasionally serviceable as a 3rd pairing guy but make no question about it, he's most of the time absolutely terrible. Slow as ****, an über-suspect decision making and a complete offensive black hole.

He was a poor top pairing guy in Philly and a mediocre middle pairing guy in tampa. Overpaid in both situations. As a 6/7 at 700k he's pretty awesome.

Best #8 d-man in the league.

Don't hate this deal. Seems strange after resigning Granberg yesterday though. Could a trade be in the works?

He already lost a lot of money by being bought out. That's punishment enough.

Have you ever made a mistake ? Did you not want a 2nd chance ? Also unless you walked in his shoes you have no clue as to why he got fat . Maybe he did not work out for many reasons , like family problems , unknown injury and maybe you are right he got lazy . But me unless I know 100% the reason I rather not throw a guy under the bus . If this becomes a pattern then by all means .

Sold to you. Man, are you going to have fun watching the grandma walker checks he delivers and the slow motion passes in your own crease.

Nashville, I love your team, but this was not a good move. He'll give you maybe 4 good games a season to tease you, that's it.

Was Jackman really that bad compared to Carle? Seems odd to me.

Jackman wasn't that bad. He was just making too much ($3 million) to be the 7th d-man. Poile has now signed two vets (Weber and Carle) for close to the vet minimum.

Bitetto, Granberg, Weber, and Carle will battle it out for the two bottom pairing spots (although, I think that Bitetto is a lock as #5).

And he kicked my dog...

He played terribly in TB for about 85% of the time last season. He didn't even get a point until 3/4s way in. I mean we were paying him so much that kind of had to play him. Now the 15% of the time? When Stralman went down we had to play him more. He was actually a little better with the play increase. But still vulnerable for a bad play resulting with the puck in our net.
