I think Annunen is bad, but you could at least say that he has some potential if he gets to work with a good goalie coach. A 32yo mediocre journeyman goalie is probably not going to be improving a whole lot. Add the 6th round pick and yeah.

If he is worse then I don't know how he ever made it to the NHL

Welcome to the Avs goaltending depth chart…

He will probably be fine as a low usage backup behind Saros playing against weaker teams. Maybe the Preds can squeeze something more out of him in the future but looking at it from your teams viewpoint - I’d say this is more about freeing up a bit of cap this year and next than it is about Annunen being any kind of prize.

Hey remember how Trotz traded Askarov because he signed Wedgewood with term to backup Saros and now has traded Wedgewood away two months into the season.

Great asset management. I can’t with this guy, man. Annunen at least has some value and is younger I guess.

Wait ... you think it was the Wedgewood signing and not the Saros contract that led to Askarov's trade?

He will be working with one of the best goalie coaching groups. Korn/Vanderklok/Rinne is pretty freaking solid. Between him and Chrona one of them will pan out to be a reliable backup to Saros

Lot of Avs fans who don’t like this trade but just changing the makeup of the tandem is huge. The team had lost confidence playing in front of both George and Annunen. The shakeup was needed even if it’s only temporary relief.

I think it was more that Askarov wanted a path to be starter, and with Saros' extension, it wasn't going to be there for him.

Because he got rid of Wedgwood? He sucks
Got rid of Wedgewood. Traded Askarov. Lost Fabbro for nothing on waivers. Signed 34 year old Stamkos to a horrific contract with a no move clause. Signed 33 year old Marchessault to a 5 year contract.
