Yes Chrona signed a 2 year contract with Brynas on May 19th, 2026.

It’s possible Magnus could have an NHL out clause in his SHL May 19th agreement, if he signs a new NHL contract with Colorado perhaps on a 2-way deal.

He’s never going to a play a game in the Avs organization. Won’t be part of the org in 15 days.

A middle six forward at the tail end of his prime making $4MM on a one year deal is a contract that's not negative value. Colton can skate, can hit, goes on odd scoring heaters at times and he's pretty durable.

I didn't think it was worth 2 3rds, but what are two 3rd round picks really worth? Probably not much to GMs.
The Avs are in a bit of a tight spot for space, and Colton was the top guy that it would’ve been awesome to get someone to take on without taking much back. Because he’s the guy the Avs would miss the least. Take the W and move on vs trying to make anyone think other than you got a great deal here! Sure he can be a useful player but it’s hard not to feel like Mac isn’t still working for the Avs on this one.

With Bunting, Haula, McCarron, and Smith traded/not extended, we dont have any vet bottom 6 depth. McCarron just signed a large long term contract so im very wary of what contracts will look like in free agency. Solid depth pickup and we should be able to atleast recoup half the cost at the deadline if we trade him. Also get an AHL goalie since Chrona signed with the SHL.

Seems reasonable to me as a Predators fan. Better fit and player for our bottom 6 vet than we have had for a couple seasons.

Ross was a nice little top 9 player for Tampa, and at first for Colorado. But he kinda fell off the past couple years.

Colton has 1 good month a season, other than that he's a pretty bad player. He's a 3rd line winger who's pretty physical and decent on the forecheck, has below average hands, little to no IQ, and is poor defensively. Can't PK and isnt good on PP.

Happy he's gone.

I wouldn't be surprised if Colton ends up playing center in Nashville. He was terrible with the Avs, but in the Pred's slower system I could see him being a fine #2/3C option. Certainly a better option than Wood, Svechkov, or Jost.

Probably kind of a win-win trade. Avs dump Colton's salary, where he just hasn't been a good fit because he's too slow. Not paying a huge price for it. Nasvhille gets a middle-6 guy with some playoff pedigree who they can probably flip for more extra stuff at the deadline.

Also, Avs acquire an All Name Team caliber player in Magnus Chrona. Who absolutely sounds like a scifi or comic book villain.

The MacFarland bloodletting has begun. Oh sure he'll start with Ross Colton. Next he'll take Nichushkin off your hands, seems like a problem child anyway. Pretty soon you've traded Nathan MacKinnon for Ryan Ufko, Joakim Kemell, and a 2029 1st.

I don't like this parallel universe, I prefer the one where he trades Josi to Boston for Mittelstadt and brings in Jenner and Burakovsky.

I have yet to see a single Avs fan lament this trade and the loss of Colton without taking back a contract or retaining. That we got 2 3rd rounders is gravy. It's not a lot of gravy. 3rd round picks have marginal value.. but it's still gravy.

And we're all pleased to have an additional $4MM of cap space to retain Drury and maybe Kulak. Two players the club would miss more than Ross Colton.

I think it's safe to say the Avs lost both the Byram and Newhook trades. It is whatever... one doesn't cry of spilled milk... but we lost each trade decisively. CMac was a ok, but nothing more than mediocre GM with the types of hits and misses you see from a league average GM.

A fan above made a great point about getting this trade done early. Sakic is always playing on the front foot. He's decisive and that's why he's a better than average GM. MacFarland picked up that aspect of Sakic and why he's got a chance to improve.

One solid cap clearing move. Avs will need to do another good sized cap clearing move to fill out the spots on their roster.

Colton isn't a high IQ player. He's got the physical tools, but lacks the mental ones. I'm glad he's on Nashville and not the Avs. The $4MM will be spent better elsewhere.

I'm not sure we will make another move. This UFA class sucks. We don't have many needs. Our trade assets are minimal.

I see no reason to clear cap space.. for what? to sign Anders Lee and Viktor Arvidsson?

The Avs had and have a good enough team to win the Cup.. If they just brough back Drury and Kulak... that roster is still ELITE.

What they lack is a coach that knows how to coach in the playoffs. The roster isn't the issue. It's the guy behind them on the bench that prevents the Avs from post season success.

Of course not a single Avs fan laments this trade? It’s a steal for the Avs. There were question marks on how easy it would be to move Colton and not only did you move him without taking salary back you got two picks. It’s plenty of gravy.

I’m not sure what you mean about no reason to clear cap space.

We have less than 7M in space and only 16 players counting. Typically the Avs run a 22 man roster, meaning you need to add 6 players to it using only 7M. We have one LD signed in Toews. No 2nd pairing dman, no 3rd pairing dman.

Even if you assume the Avs will use Brindley, Hughes and Gagne as everyday players, they total 2.7M. Brings the Avs down to just over 4M in space with still 3 more players needed. Drury isn’t signed, and we still have no 2nd pairing dman.

There’s nowhere close to enough room to be able to properly fill out the roster.
