Amazing! What a month will do. We were super close to looking like we were going to bottom out again.

Ullmark Mark has returned to his All-Star ways. I don't expect him to keep up the torrid Pace. However, if he can just play 500 hockey for us, we'll make the rest happen.

I am very impressed with the structured play as of late. The team is playing well together and making a huge effort to play a complete 200-ft game. They're taking care of the little details. They're not playing perfect and I don't expect them to and I don't care. All that matters is we keep playing with this level of intensity and we're going to be on the right side of the score more times than not. I don't expect miracles but with this level of effort and hard work, good things will come.

There has been a lot of standout players. Our first line is playing like one of the best first lines in hockey. You're starting to see the second line play like a first line. Also. The third line is starting to chip in and the fourth line is starting to do its job.

I think some of our best play from our defense I have seen in many years. Jensen is truly the anchor on this team. His calmness is contagious for Chabot. It's too bad that Jake has to play with an anchor around his neck named Harmonic. The third pairing has actually surprised me. They're seeing limited ice time yes, but they are playing solid hockey. They're definitely going to see increased playing time if they continue. I have to wonder if Zub comes back quicker that they make. Let him rest a bit more with a practice Jersey on considering how well things are going in the back end.

Certainly nice early Christmas present to have our team firing on all cylinders. I hope they're able to continue to do this through the rest of the month. This is a really crucial part of our season that we're going through and so far they're doing really well. However, with the holidays coming up it's always a bit sketchy. But it's sketchy for other teams too and hopefully we end up on the right side of things.

Enjoying watching the game these days with a smile on my face.

We're the third most improved team compared to this point last year. Interesting that Tampa is just a bit behind us. View attachment 947715
It would be interesting to see these numbers as their projected point pace vs last year's total points, wondering if the numbers would change substantially. We're currently on pace for bang on 90 points. We finished last year with 78 points, so we're about 13% better than last year. However, we're very narrowly outpacing our season from 2 years ago.

Assuming you have to start Ullmark Saturday against Vancouver and write off Edmonton as a loss.

Edmonton plays at 4pm Ottawa time on Saturday and then 8pm against us Sunday
Ottawa plays at 10pm Ottawa time on Saturday and then 8pm against Edmonton

The team looked rough with the 24 hours between Carolina and Pittsburgh at home. I don't see how they hold up against Edmonton with even less time off.

It's one of those ones where the generic measures of a schedule would say "oh Ottawa is tired but playing a tired team". Not in reality though. Edmonton is at home with over 24 hours off. Ottawa is flying in with less than 24 hours.

Logically speaking you're right, but in reality I don't think they will want Merilainen facing Edmonton.

Exactly. They aren't going to win every game this road trip. If there's a time they are likely to leave 2 points on the table it is likely at the end of the road trip thus we should give Ullmark a rest before Christmas,

With back to backs coming up---Vancouver then Edmonton. I think they go Forsberg then Ullmark. Ullmark vs Edmonton.
I doubt we win these next two games and go 4-0 on this road trip.

People just need to enjoy the ride.

No one cares whether we are actually good or not. It's just nice to go on a positive run that might result in playoffs. For the last 7 years, we have seen very little meaningful hockey. I think there was maybe one season out of those 7 where games had some level of consequence anytime after January.

There is a time and a place to prove your acumen as a message board warrior who knows more than the coaching staff, GM, or Dean Brown. But this is not it.

This is coming from someone who a month ago was sure we were relocating to Kansas City and trading Brady to HC Ak Bars by the end of the season.

Pretty much this. I'm finding myself going out of my way to pick up less evening shifts at work to watch the games live instead of a tape. So much more fun to watch your team when they're in the thick of things.

Forsberg is in Ottawa I think they said during last nights game.
I forgot about Forsberg's injury. Merilainen will probably play vs Vancouver. Then Ullmark vs Edmonton.
I would think they will give Ullmark one night off and not play him back to back ( Saturday, Sunday)

Little early.

NHL.COM updates their standings in real time…. And don’t think the teams out west don’t know game results (in the East) and how it impacts them… coaches probably use it for motivation…..

You lose again

no, my team, the Sens responded to the ‘knowledge that they were knocked out of the WC spot, and that they needed at a minimum one point, to get back in the WC spot…

The point being, with teams so close behind them, they needed to step up and keep the winning streak going as long as possible..

Ya, now in the first wild card spot, using points percentage, that’s your go to stat.

Rangers still have the better record….

🤣 hey flip flopper,

Still waiting for an answer after 3 tries
So we know moving forward, which one do you want to go by,

a) points
b) points percentage
C) keep on flip flopping,

Clearly you can’t wrap your head around the point I’ve made.

NHL.COM updates their standings in real time…. And yes they do it with their (idiotic) points system …. and you can’t argue with that fact.

So twice in the past week, the Sens were temporarily knocked out of their WC spot, by the Penguins, and the Sens responded by taking back the WC Spot…. IF they had lost in regulation, the Penguins would be in the WC spot.

Do you get it now?

The NHL does NOT rank their Standings, based on Points Percentage…. I wish they would, but they don’t… I’ve argued in favour of ranking the standings based on a teams record, but the NHL sticks with their stupid points system, because it give the illusion of a tighter race for playoff spots, deeper into the season, to drive ticket sales.
