The only reason we have this matchup in the first place is because of the Canadian restrictions.

Of course, but having the fans there, would be absolutely incredible you have to admit. Theoretically, the Covid reason for the North Division, could have disappeared, and we could be in a position to allow fans now... but this didn't play out that way.

There is potential in every single possible series for an upset. But in the end the better team is the favorite for a reason and they should be expected to win. The Leafs have to pull this off.

Normally regular season situations don't matter that much going into the playoffs since you aren't playing the other team that often. But these teams have a pretty full grasp of what the other side is bringing. Our top guys need to keep doing what they've been doing and go out there and win.

I'm going to say Leafs in 5 since it just shouldn't be close. But however they do it, they've got to win.

I think the first period of the first game Habs will be buzzing on adrenaline. After that it will settle down and our waves of talent should take over every game. Patience, smarts, pace. Hit Weber early and often. A coupla quick early goals would deflate them. Oddly enough, in the past if we were ever down a few goals I would throw in the towel too quickly (watching some of the Habs game threads, it's hilarious how many jump off the ledge at an early goal against and want to fire the entire team, management, parking lot attendants, everyone lol). I have never ever felt that with this years team, I know we are a few shifts away from a couple of goals at any time.

We got this.

They were 16-4-4 with Galchenyuk in the lineup playing top 6 minutes. I like Nash in principle but holy f*** do I get nervous with last minute tinkering. This team was absolutely dominant; is a significant lineup change worth it without proven merit? Just get those flashbacks to the play in when Keefe put in a rusty and offensively challenged Johnnson over Robertson and then the team gets shut out. Don’t f*** with chemistry.

Forwards 10 through 14 in the pecking order....should be under no illusions...win and you're in....lose and next man up.

work hard, and stop with the blind drop passes, and back drops and its an easy series win.
else, its a tossup with us still heavily favored.

Habs injuries could also play a major factor.
Habs board making their lineups with every player in as if all are healthy.
either they are going to be in for a surprise or we are.

There is no Habs Leafs rivalry. We haven't met in the playoff in over 40 years. It's like Vancouver and Winnipeg fans thinking there is some sort of rivalry with us. The Habs rival is the Bruins. We don't really have one any more as the 6 team league doesn't count.

You just started following this team? The Habs are our #1 rival and many of us have been waiting from 78/79 for playoff revenge.

why wouldnt/shouldnt we be? ...we are the favorite, and playing at Home, and have the more talented players.
technically, if we came out 'buzzing', the game could be over in the first 5 mins, though we seldom do.

That’s all fine and good but as it stands it is a significant lineup change for a team that blasted the North Division. Theoretically it shouldn’t be an issue and should be a benefit... is it necessary to add the potential risk however?

I hope the team learned something from Columbus last season. You can't win a playoff series just by showing up, no matter how skilled you are. Hopefully they are not cocky this year because they coming in 1st place.

I think they saw how Columbus shut down the offence last time and they want to be able to compete in those kind of games.

Habs aren't going to be playing a game that the Leafs like to play...they're going to be clogging zones and going for the the lowest event game possible. Nash thrives in that type of game. Naturally he has to go in for someone who brings what we already have in spades on the top 6-8 forwards.

I don’t like taking gally out of the lineup. He’s gonna go beast mode against the team that gave up on him. Probably as big a deal as spezza missing the home opener last year

Has he been taken out or are we just discussing the possibility?

At least not as cocky as we are

Well, when 24 out of 24 US teams allow fans in the stands at some point in their season and 0 out of 7 Canadian teams did - that says enough.

I’m just going by practice lines with nash Hyman foligno back in. I would like to look at either foligno or Hyman on the shut down line. Keep gally with Tavares unless he falters. Maybe have to scratch mikeyev

Amen.

Though I hope I'm wrong, IMO anyone that thinks this is going to be a cake walk is in for a surprise.

This team ain't last year's team. We're better, we're deeper, we're more mature, we're defensively responsible, and we can score. I'd love to be sitting down with my dad (miss ya bud), his favorite team being the Habs, look him straight in the eye, and being able to say with a smile while my middle finger scratches my nose..."not this year, ya son-of-a-gun." Actually, as a fan of fast paced, talent based hockey, he'd have enjoyed the Leafs this year. The Buds in 5.
