WAR standings according to JFresh Hockey

Most years there are teams that under perform and teams that over perform. With Covid, it’s could be crazier.

My pre-season rankings are:
Toronto
Calgary
Edmonton
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Montreal
Ottawa

But, outside of the Leafs finishing last or Ottawa finishing first, there is no final standing that will surprise me. Pick any combination.

My pre-season guess
Calgary
Edmonton
Toronto
Montreal
Winnipeg
Vancouver
Ottawa.

I went with Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal.

Ottawa I don't think is there yet.
Vancouver has had the worst record both last year, and the last three years, against other Canadian teams, and just don't match up well.
Edmonton has a history of disappointing.

Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, in that order. I think people really sleep on the Jets, they've got offensive firepower for days and the reigning Vezina winner. I don't see the Habs as a threat at all, they're going to come back down to earth real quick because endless depth won't make up for their lack of high end talent.

The thing about Winnipeg is that not only is their defense corps horrific, but their top-6 forwards are getting by more on reputation than performance these days. Their huge offensive outbursts a couple years back have sort of set it in people's minds that they're at a certain level that they just haven't been keeping up in lately.

Their top-6 forwards are good, but not one of those guys is a legit stud. Ehlers is the only one playing a true 2-way game anymore, though maybe Stastny can add to that this year. And a guy like Wheeler is starting to leak oil pretty fast now, while Laine is a guy who's almost a literal liability outside the PP.

In no particular order:
Toronto
Winnipeg
Edmonton
Vancouver

But that means Calgary and Montreal will almost certainly have losing records, which I find unlikely. A logjam for spots 3-6 seems most probable and so a key injury, Covid positive test, etc. could change things quickly.

So a nail-bitter for at least a couple of playoff spots right to the end.

My dream would be Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal.

With the following:

Rnd 1
Toronto (W) vs Montreal
Calgary vs Edmonton (W)

Rnd 2
Toronto (W) vs Edmonton

Rnd 3
Tampa Bay vs Toronto (W)
Boston (W) vs 'dont care'

Rnd 4
Boston vs Toronto (W)

Then nobody can say crap about an asterisk on the cup and getting to play and beat MTL, EDM, TB, BOS would be fantastic.

Toronto Boston TB and Colorado seem to be da FAVS and most likely teams (maybe Philli or Vegas has something to say)

I hate Montreal as much as the next guy (especially their fans this offseason), but I don't see why people think they won't make the playoffs. Arguably the best top-4 in the division (I think ours is better, but it's close without Edmundson in the top-4), and even without stars on F (besides Gallagher) they have a bunch of guys that are top-9 players virtually any team in the league: Gallagher, Toffoli, Tatar, Danault, Suzuki, Anderson, Drouin, Kotka, Armia, Lehkonen. Sure Price isn't what he used to be, but I'd still have him ranked as the 3rd or 4th best goalie in the division behind only Helley, Markstrom, and [maybe] Andersen.

Their coach is a guy that's proven time and time again to be a guy that realizes that xG/CF are essential to winning hockey games and like he did for Boston, turns guys into strong play drivers. Similar to Babcock, gets the most out of non-elite players.

I have them ranked either 2nd or 3rd, but I do have them quite a ways behind the Leafs.

I hate Vancouver and Winnipeg and especially Ottawa - the teams not the cities.

i want Calgary and Edmonton to face each other and the winner face the winner of Leafs Habs. The winner should go on to keep winning until the SC final
