North Bay Battalion 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. That's a tad bit concerning. They're not in a great position to build a powerhouse over the next one or two seasons with these prospects. Not a lot of ammo to make one or two big deadline adds.

It'll be fun to watch, but IMO we likely trade everyone to restock the cupboard over the next couple seasons.

2nd or 3rds would have been nice, Vaughn looks great though. We’re likely missing the playoffs, OVS is done this year and Romani unlikely to OA unless Vancouver tells him to. If we were pushing for the playoffs maybe a different story, but to get a 5th overall guy in Vaughn with Carey and Cali up front, Enright Greer and Wilson on the back end, we’ve got some good 08’ pieces to start rebuilding. Who knows, maybe a 1st overall 09 this spring….

I think that lineup or any other variation can get by Ottawa in the standings. If not, on to the lottery.

Would love to see some chemistry with Amidovski and Vaughn the same way Wellenreiter and Moses have clicked. Loving the looks of the future!

I feel we could have gotten more in terms of draft picks in this deal though. Looking at what Barrie holds for potential OA’s next season I’m thinking that we get one of them on the cheap. Someone like Tiller as they potentially bring back Gardiner, Romani & Bertucci.

wonder what the conditions are with picks. they all have an* beside the year
 
Romani has missed almost a year between playoffs and this season. He will likely be back for his OA year and traded to another contender.

This could be a quick retool. Get a top 4 pick and a new import or 2.

Ride and Kennedy could bring in some additional picks. Let the young players play and let’s see what they can do. I look forward to the next couple years as a STH.

A big part of that draft is picking a guy you can convince to move to North Bay. Stan grabbed some dandys in his time here that had no interest in reporting.

Fortunately the Battalion are a bit more respected now in terms of player development. Hopefully they can pick a couple NHL caliber guys in the next Euro draft to grow with this young core.

Looking at the current roster, we're a bit light on left shots and could probably use a good PPQB.

Out - 2025 2nd round pick
In - 2028 2nd & 2028 4th

From that news release:
Dennis the GM or is Winstanley or is Abbott drunk?

Konnor Smith O/A Dman traded for 7 picks. If Adam Dennis is selling and looking to the future, nows the time to move #25 Ride. Same size, same stats with one more eligible season. If you're gonna play the kids, play Wilson. Recoup some picks.

Wilson will be better than Ride by next year anyways, Wilson actually shoots the puck and creates a little bit of offensive from the point, something we desperately need.

They’ll be lucky to get one 2nd for Ride. Similar stats but totally different players.

Many viewed the North Bay acquisition of Ride for 2.5 seasons an overpay.
Robertson was a throw in or was destined for Jr B so he holds no value in that deal.
IF they move him I don’t think they will get close to the same value in picks that they paid to get him. Lucky to get a 2nd still stands.
