North Bay Battalion 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

He definitely struggled last night. McIvor played very well in relief though...still faced a lot of good chances and got the benefit of some PP time thanks to the totally unnecessary major by Epperson.
And another excellent game by Mikey tonight as well against Flint. Would love to see him get drafted this summer, such a great goalie

Thoughts on 1st overall pick Ryder Carey. Presently playing on the 4th line, where do you see him maxing out points wise over his next few seasons?

Carey has less points than Pro did his first year .
As a First round puck they both get to play in every single game no matter what as the 12th forward. At times, Carey Moved up a line but pro played every game on the fourth line.
The difference is pros a big boy who can play both ways.
Carey is not as good as he thinks he’s is.
We’ve had others like that like Outwater who is a complete bust and Kostich who wasn’t over spectacular.
I can see them trading Cary next year since we already have two first rounders in the same draft class.
IMO

Brendon Coe had 23 points as first year as a rookie on a bad team.
Liam Arnsby had 20 points in 55 games his first year as a 16-year-old and he’s not even a goal scorer and again our team wasn’t strong.
Wakes had 34 points as a first year player and he was a second Pick for North Bay.
Romes had 14 points in 54 in games as a third rounder
Therrien add 13 points in 54 games as NB Second pick.
Pro 18 pointers first year and 62 games.

Carey has 11 point and 54 games. He’s been given
more opportunity then in the years passed as hasn’t been playing for Stan Butler. He should be more productive.

He shows flashes of skill, that setup to Pazii last week was really nice. Carey’s biggest pro is that he gives it his all every shift, he comes off the bench flying and tries to make a difference. I think this is another Charlie Larocque type scouting error. Carey, like Larocque, was on an excellent team, and played on a line with Belchetz who dominated every game. His stats were likely inflated due to the skill of his team, like Larocque. He’s got a hard shot but he misses the net a lot and is always trying to pick a top corner. He hasn’t adjusted to the defensive skill in the OHL and he makes a lot of blind passes not realizing his coverage has read the play and shut down his line mates. For me, Vaughan is the top guy in our 08’ forward group by a long shot, he’s a threat every time he’s on the ice and I see him being a star forward in the coming years, he’s got the hockey IQ and does a lot of things right. Ryder Cali in the limited time we saw him appears to have a very high hockey IQ, a huge frame for his age, and looks like a solid net presence center. I think Cali played very conservative in his call up, with more confidence I think he will be a solid player. Carey would rank 3rd for me. He’s still young and can make huge progress, but he’s a power forward type and the team is overloaded with that type of player currently. I see 30-40 points max personally. We need a replacement for the playmakers we will lose (A.Leblanc, Welly) next year. Another Pazii type would really compliment the team next season.

34 Mike McIvor has the net. 4 Aaron Enright (yikes); 9 Briir Long; 23 Stepan Chukharev are out. 31 Evan Maillet goes for SAR.

Nice win by the troops, McIvor rock solid again. Wellenreiter-Pazii-Amidovski line really gelling nicely. Pazii with another 2 point performance and one time goal, generating a ton of offense with his speed and hands. I think he’d be another on the central scouting radar if he hadn’t missed so much of the season, very skilled guy who plays big for his size and just seems to get better and better every month. Excited to see him next year in a higher role.

NB is only losing 3 players next year. Leblancs and Wigle .
Welly has deferred his NCAA untill 2026
That means they have two overage spots and one import spot open plus their first round draft pick from this years draft (25 )that is guaranteed to be in the line up.
Thats 4 spots taken and only 3 leaving.

Oh yeah? That’s awesome! Welly is such a gem, we are lucky to have him. Next year is going to be very exciting

30 Jack Lisson has the net (not sure about this one). 4 Aaron Enright (gulp); 7 Brayden Turley; 20 Reyth Smith; 23 Stepan Chukharev are out. 10 Declan Gallivan makes his long awaited debut. 36 Landon Miller goes for SSM.
What’s the story on Gallivan anyways? Injury? Illness?

Boy, Lisson is really no better than Charlie. Seem he can’t track the puck lately.

Have to agree…. Looks like he’s lost his confidence. Wouldn’t hurt to spend an 09’ 2nd/3rd pick on a goalie this spring, Mike won’t be here forever

There were a lot of NHL scouts in the building last night in the Soo. At least 6 NHL representatives in the building. Brady Martin put on a good show for them with 5 points and being the best player on the ice all game.

I know Kris Draper beside me was taking notes on Landon Miller, Jordan Charron and Travis Hayes on the Soo side. And the Ottawa Senators scout said he was taking notes on Moses and Amidovski on NB side.

One game sample size but long awaited debut of Gallivan tells me he has a long way to go to be OHL ready.

Larocque in net, McIvor scratched… Enright scratched, Kaspergeridis back in and looking like he’s made some progress. Charlie looks like he’s got his confidence back, awesome to see

Enright, Greer, Kapageridis, Manzo, Ride, Turley, Wilson should all be above Gallivan on the depth chart. There is not much need for a 4 - ‘07 LD, so Gallivan will likely remain a battalion affiliate, or play for another OHL team.

Kapageridis impressed me last night. Moves the puck well & quick, With a few icing's because of timing, he is going to be a solid defender and not afraid to go into the corners.
Was surprised they put him out there in OT, I figured he’d hang back and play it extra conservative but he hopped right in and made some nice plays. Looks like another good offensive Dman. Good pickup at the deadline for sure
