Vikings just barely won all season, so I was suspicious, but still, they won. The secondary looks like they can't cover anyone, and the O line was mediocre once Darrisaw went out, but they had a lot of good players, also. Just can't win in the playoffs unless you have a good QB, unless you have a crazy good defense, and MN's is not that. Darnold showed his true colors at the end of the season when it mattered. Are the NFC North teams a bunch of frauds? If the lions lose, I have to think the division records were extremely misleading.
I'm not sure that's the right conclusion, since the top three teams' records outside of the division were 9-2 (Detroit), 10-1 (MN), and 10-1 (GB).Are the NFC North teams a bunch of frauds? If the lions lose, I have to think the division records were extremely misleading.
In a way, we can be thankful for the pitiful performances that Darnold had in his final two games here. Should leave no doubt in the minds of the Viking management that he should not be re-signed.
JJ is another question mark ...we'll see. When was the last time MN had a franchise QB? Favre, all too briefly, when he was older. Culpepper, again, briefly. I think the only one, really , was Tarkenton, and that was 50 years ago. We're due.
We need someone in the secondary who can actually cover a receiver, too.
I fully expect us to regress next year and im fine with that so long as JJ (If hes starting) shows promise.Vikings schedule for next year is brutal, so McCarthy may struggle if they go that route.
I assumed that wouldn't be an option. Even with his poor performance in the last two games, some team will offer him 45-60M for 3 years, or something like that. Signing Darnold would also create a potential QB drama on the team.I have no issue with re-signing Darnold to the same 1 year $10 million deal he signed going into this season....but I'm sure there will be some other desperate team who will open up their checkbook for him.
Ya, I mean, it was a facemask, but it's opening a can of worms if refs start calling penalties after looking at replays.Calling that facemask with no flag on the ground is pure COMEDY from the league.
After the botched Darnold facemask earlier in the year, it’s crazy that the league called that. Rams got the benefit in both instances.Ya, I mean, it was a facemask, but it's opening a can of worms if refs start calling penalties after looking at replays.
The division is good and the playoff teams deserved to be in the playoffs. However, the entire division got to play the AFC South and some dysfunctional middle tier teams. How many games against non-division 10 win opponents did the division have? The packers schedule was light. They didn’t play playoff teams like Pittsburgh or Kansas City or Tampa Bay like they did in 2023.I'm not sure that's the right conclusion, since the top three teams' records outside of the division were 9-2 (Detroit), 10-1 (MN), and 10-1 (GB).
Those other losses were to Tampa Bay (division winner), Buffalo (powerhouse), LA Rams (division winner), and Philly (powerhouse). The only loss period to a team with less than 10 wins was the Packers losing to the Bears in Week 18.
Green Bay, due to their record in-division, was simply stuck facing a better team. Minnesota watched their QB who was known for turning into a pumpkin, actually turn into a pumpkin the last two weeks of the year. Detroit has had a million injuries like mentioned above.
I don't really know what to make of all of that.
I think I would only list Fran. If you want to add in Favre, you might as well add in Cunningham and Moon. Culpepper was darn close, but ultimately he had a few really great years which sandwiched some really bad ones, then he moved on and was a backup everywhere else.In a way, we can be thankful for the pitiful performances that Darnold had in his final two games here. Should leave no doubt in the minds of the Viking management that he should not be re-signed.
