There really isn't players that dominate all facets of the junior realm and then end up not being generational. There's players like Jordan Eberle who dominate a tournament.

He did the McDavid/Crosby thing

He put up generational numbers for sure. Whether that translates into a generational NHL career is another thing though. Lots of examples of players not meeting expectations based on their junior numbers.

Huh? You sure? I bet we could field some full teams with guys that meet this criteria. I may be exaggerating as I'm not thinking about actual lists, but there are lots of guys that dominate junior and don't even make the NHL....let alone be generational type players.

I mean dominate and break records at the junior club and international level. Breaking records that generational NHL players set in junior. This is the reason why Crosby and McDavid were hyped as hall of famers before they played an NHL game. Or were you downright skeptical of both of them too ?

What do you think is holding Bedard back from “generational” production then?

I’d (die hard Hawks fan) wager it’s that the size and strength difference between the CHL and NHL is a little too much right now for CB and he’s got to fill out a little more. The time and space he had against teenagers isn’t there for him right now and he’s getting very little help from the 2nd worst roster in the league which has all sorts of ripple effects.

Playing on a gutter team means things like: not being able to transition out of your zone quickly and effectively, getting stuck in your own zone, having players not finish on the chances he creates for term, not having players create chances for him, being completely keyed in on because no one else is worth the attention, etc…are common place for him night in and night out.

He’s a phenomenal talent, he just needs some help.

I think just about everyone has agreed that he's a phenomenal talent by now, really the only thing i see that keeps getting brought up and held against him is that he's not McDavid/Crosby/generational level. He may "only" be a Patrick Kane-level player, as it turns out.

lol....i mean....do you know how freakin' good you gotta be at age 19 to have people comparing your potential ceiling to Patrick Kane as if its a disapointment/less than what was expected?!?!?!?

Bedard didnt really dominate that much more than Tavares in juniors. I think he ends up just better than that. Still elite super star but none elite physical traits.

TR91TOR ( Tavares) had no skating skills and no strength on the puck when drafted . He spent much of his first couple seasons on his belly on the ice. A private skating coach got him to NHL level but never great . He also quickly realized on the Islanders not good team that when he dumped the puck in there was nobody to go get it . He learned how to be that grinding forward and puck possession player because it was a need . In his early NHL years his line mates were the likes of Matt Moulson and PA Parenteau. Yikes ….. both were crappy players before Tavares then both got paid by other franchises and went back to being crappy . I believe that even though JT has put up a ton of points in his career one of his best attributes was making those around him better. I am an Islanders fan who of course felt betrayed but you can’t go against the pajamas.. Anyway Bedard will be great , not very good but great. He will fill out and lift weights , He will make those around him better and one day have his 1000 points too.
Back to the OP now .. teams do not have to be afraid of him to fear him . LGI ( Lets Go Islanders )

IMO Bedard needs to play wing with an elite centre. Imagine him with a space eating, play maker. Hawks need to trade for a centre who can play that role.

I mean, Patrick Kane was much better than Bedard has been thus far.
