Who was KD supposed to pick up last summer? Rebuilds take time and, for better or worse, the Hawks landed their center piece a few years early.

Bedard is a conbined -68, and he still has more than 1/3 season to fail even more.

I don't think there was any "generational" player coming to the league in recent years, put up nice numbers, and yet finish -44 in a single season.

Well here's the REALITY: I just googled "top NHL prospect pools"....and out of the first 3 sources i checked the Hawks are ranked 1st, 4th, and 2nd respectively. They were also graded very highly/"A" for last years draft. Both the Hawks and the Sharks have a TON of young talent in their systems, and even more draft picks upcoming....only the Hawks have a slightly higher caliber of D prospects whereas the Sharks have higher caliber F prospects. But this will all even out as both organizations continue to build. Both have promising futures but still a long way to go, and anyone THIS EARLY trying to make judgements(especially when they obviously have very little insight on the facts/details) is just trying to force their agenda in favor of the Sharks/Celebrini. Cuz its the "cool"/popular thing to do.

Its too bad that this gets lost in all the nonsense. People are far too distracted with their hatred for the Blackhawks.

And despite being told that you're misinformed....just like all the others.....you're probably going to ignore this, and the BS/misinformation wildfire is just going to keep spreading.

There are guys who had HHOF careers who at Bedard's current age were playing college or minor league hockey...not expected to carry an NHL team offensively.

It's all a bit premature given that Bedard hasn't looked out of place in the NHL. There's no evidence he can't elevate his game in the next 3-4 years. There's no guarantee either, but other than a select few players in NHL history there never really was with 19 year olds. Are we saying he's a bust because his career start suggests he may not challenge Mario or Wayne in the end?

Maybe getting Tortorella-type tough love would have been better for Bedard long term. It seems every game he gets his 20 minutes regardless of the mistakes he makes.

His deployment at the WC last year said a lot. Think they were pretty much only putting him out on the power play by the end of the tournament.

Still plenty of time to figure it out though.

Well, maybe I’m wrong about Bedard.

Just like Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Lindros, Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid who all played in international, best on best pro tournaments when the first opportunity afforded itself, as other defined generational talents, maybe Bedard will change my opinion when he laces them up in the 4 Nations these next 2 weeks.

Only player in the league who I think could waltz onto a team as terrible as the Blackhawks as an 18-19 year old and score 90+ is McDavid. Even that's not a given. Not MacKinnon, Kucherov, Draisaitl, Matthews.

Drai's high water mark was 77 points in year 3, until like MacKinnon having a breakout 5th season with 105.

MacKinnon was awesome in his rookie season, but started to regress after that. Once he went all-in on being a pro, diet etc and getting a sports psychologist it all clicked. The tools were already there.

The Bedard situation is different. Needs to mature and evolve his game. He does have some physical limitations like his size and lack of power and explosiveness. Should be a great player once it all clicks eventually, probably not worthy of the mega hype but great nonetheless.

The hype was unreal, I can see how Hawks fans believe Bedard is more than he is, I don't blame them.

Bedard looked invisible half the game and the other half he was generating scoring chances that ultimately led to nothing.

give him good teammates, change bad habits, he's a 85-100 pt player in his prime.
(with higher scoring era not as impressive as some years)

But he's not the second coming of Crosby as Hawks media profess and insist.

Nope. Crosby got cut in 2006. McDavid’s first opportunity was right now lol.
