So we can stop with these utterly ridiculous standards. He’s not gonna match the same level set by Gretzky/Mario/Crosby/McDavid…basically a who’s who of the greatest of the greats. BUT….is he gonna be potentially another Patrick Kane-caliber player? I think so. And again that shouldn’t be considered underwhelming or disappointing at all, in fact it’s something worth praising.

He’s 5’10” listed at 185, probably between 175-180 based on pictures, and has a terrible frame for putting on muscle mass.

Saying he has flaws and giving criticisms of his play is one thing. Saying things like “he’ll never be better than McDavid” or “no one is afraid of Bedard” drip with meathead insecurity

Bedard could turn into the second coming of Nail Yakupov and it would still be a smug attempt to belittle the player.

This is just kind of the sad truth about the way people are, you're gonna have a large portion out there that are bitter and petty and its not going to stop. And then the way their misinformation and (sometimes)utter BS spreads to others who take it and run with it and repeat it themselves....its very unfortunate.

This whole thing about how he was overhyped and how he's not the next McDavid/Crosby....when will we move on from this? Its like you could give someone a list of the different things Bedard has already done that are extremely impressive for a 19 year old to accomplish in the NHL....and all you'd hear back is "yeah but he's not generational yada yada yada".....as if what others completely beyond his control said about him or predicted before he was drafted is somehow all that matters. Its soooooo silly.

What is the bar? Generational Talent?

And who made said bar? Cause I can’t be quoted in this thread once calling him that.

People saying he reminds them of RNH or Hall are gonna get roasted in this thread in a few years. Speaking of Hall, I don’t ever recall him and a young Mcdavid meshing well. TT is just a bad fit. He’s extremely weak and I wouldn’t want him near any of our young forwards for that reason. The Canes let him walk for an affordable rate because they know he’s just a mediocre middle six forward. I liked him as a young Hawk but he’s the same exact player we let go of almost 8 years later. Happy we only have him for two more years. On a team that has drafted a lot of smaller forwards I don’t want another aging one in our top 9 long term.
 
See him more as a Kane/Stamkos type , guys you can most certainly win important hockey games with. His insane junior numbers did him a disservice he's just not build like those franchise generational guys.

People are a little harsh on him because of the hype but he's gonna be a great player

I will never understand this media over-hyping of teenagers (which leads to fans' overhyping of teenagers) coming into the NHL. For his age (19), Bedard is outproducing about 98% of players in history.

Don't even start judging players until they're at least 20... or 21... or 22...
 
Chilllllll. He's a teenager. Playing with potentially the worst roster in the NHL right now. Especially after trading Hall.

Check in with me in 4 years when he's still just 23. Bet he's a 100+ point player and the Hawks are on the rise.

Bedard has great hands and good vision/playmaking, definitely has more than just an elite shot. In fact he's been much more of a playmaker in the NHL than a shooter/scorer so far.
