Not really a twig. He is lean and pretty cut but lacks Girth. He’s also sub 5’10 per thr combine. Just how he is. Can add a bit of weight over time but defending a smaller guy like him who doesn’t possess great wheels is easier than defending against McDavid or MacKinnon.Bedard is a twig, light as a feather. Doesn't scare anyone and would probably get shut down bad if the Blackhawks ever make the playoffs. That dude just doesn't play winning hockey yet, no matter the point totals.
The problem with many of the modern rebuilds is these kids are on islands without good role models and they develop bad habits/don't learn good ones.
I think it's a bit unfair to compare style of play to Crosby and Ovie though. They are built differently and came into the league playing a gritty brand of game.
I thought Bedard would be more Kariya lite myself but Paul was light-years ahead in his d plus 2 year in terms of his all around game.
I'm sure the season the Avs finished with 48 points, all the teams were laying awake in sheer terror every night before they played them wondering what tricks a 53 point MacKinnon had up his sleeve, and that this post isn't at all captain hindsight

The difference i see there is MacKinnon was a physical beast and Hughes an elite skater. Bedard is small, slow, and weak. He's certainly talented but his physical attributes hold him back a bit. He's going to be an elite player but top 3 like MacKinnon? i have doubts.Mackinnon and Hughes were far from special early on. Bedard is on pace for 75 points on a tire fire of a team. He’s physically immature and doesn’t have help. It’s impressive when most people can pick apart holes in his game and acknowledge this team is brutal and that he’s also almost a PPG player.
Give the kid 2-3 years here. He can’t even drink in the city he resides in.
The problem with the Kariya comparison is that Paul's rookie season would be Bedard's upcoming 3rd season at the same age.

The other problem is outside of Bure Kariya was probably the best skater in the league. Don't see the Kariya comparison at all tbh.The problem with the Kariya comparison is that Paul's rookie season would be Bedard's upcoming 3rd season at the same age.
It’s a natural inclination. So is wanting to be right about it afterward. He’s 19. I don’t get the negativity.
Edge stats say otherwise. Top speed is below average.Yeah he was a bit older when he entered the league.
Bedard isn't slow. He's definitely above average in terms of speed.
Last year 75th percentile. I dunno what to make of that but focusing on only the games so far this year seems faulty.Edge stats say otherwise. Top speed is below average.
