You know the drill, Isles have 75 defensemen under contract and at least one of them needs to go. Dobson is the easiest to move and will get the biggest return. Would prefer to send him to the west coast in case he turns into Pietrangelo. Assuming your team gets to work out a contract with him beforehand, what kind of offer comes through? Some ideas, let me know how off I am:

SJ: Wiliam Eklund + DAL 1st

SEA: Dobson + NYI 2025 1st for Rehkopf, SEA 2025 and 2026 1st (top 3 protected)

MTL: Hage + 1st + 2nd

SJ isn't giving up Victor Eklund

William Eklund (Victor is in this years draft).. and it’s not happening.

If Grier did a deal for Dobson it would probably be something like Musty + DAL 1st + small add. Dobson didn’t have a great year this season and NYI don’t have much leverage if long term contract talks stall.

I don’t think San Jose can give up victor eklund. William eklund might be available for Dobson but I doubt we add a first on top of eklund.

Scott Morrow and a 1st as the base. Good D prospect the becomes expendable because of what comes in. Probably slots into the NHL lineup right away, which may still be appealing to Islanders’ management.

Carolina moves forward with:

Slavin - Dobson
Nikishin - Chatfield

Sorry guys, in draft mode lol. Musty + DAL 1st + something non-inconsequential might work. I will add that Dobson's "not great year" was about 5 points off of what he usually paces for, and the team had an insanely bad PP. Those points plus more are easily made up on any team that doesn't have a bottom 2 PP.

I don't think he's going within the division unless it's an overpay. Probably not looking for a a defenseman in return either - Artamonov would probably be the prospect we'd be after

Sharks say no. We can offer more of a futures based package around a first or two (DAL, EDM), prospects like Musty, Bystedt, Halttunen, 2nds etc but I highly doubt we move Eklund and we definitely wouldn’t be adding a first on top of him for Dobson.

NYI need something of substance in return for them to move him, a package of prospects and picks doesn’t help the second lowest scoring team in the East next season.
I could see an NHL ready prospect being part of the return. Musty probably makes the team tbf, so I could see him being a part of a return

He has one game of pro experience, Musty is a no-go for NYI.

They need to acquire someone who can make an immediate impact on the roster.

Why? If you trade Dobson you are not going to be able to replace his contribution right away no matter what the return is.

If you move Dobson just embrace the retool or rebuild - whichever you want to call it

NYI can run DeAngelo/Pulock/Mayfield/Boqvist and be fine from a production standpoint.

If they can roll Dobson’s impact into a forward they will be tremendously more balanced as a club.

There’s a lot of holes in that top 4 and if you really think you can solve all your offensive issues with one 70-75 points player then you deserve to stay in no mans land for the foreseeable future

If Habs can get a 2C center on the UFA market, I see them being interested in that kind of deal for Dobson.

Though that would need to happen after July 1st, making those picks in 2026's draft.

We've discussed Sharks packages for Dobson ad nauseum. Let's get crazy.

Sharks fall to 3, Isles want Hagens. What are you adding to Dobson to get the pick?

I'd consider moving Eklund for Dobson but I'm not sure I'd even do it straight nevermind adding a first.

Might need some minor pieces but I think it's a solid foundation. They're in range of where his brother is projected to go as well. That'd be nice to see. He would really enjoy that.
