This was a defining game. A win and Kings go to 28% to make the playoffs, a loss it goes to 10%

Difficult time to be a Kings fan.

Strange to hear of the respect teams "outwardly" give to LA. They are good but something is really off.

The Kings have shown they have no extra gear the last three years.

The core is legit but the ensemble and passion doesn't measure up.

Need some fresh air. Thanks for all you did DS and DL.

John Stevens has been waiting in line for a long time now for the head coach position. I think this is a great opportunity to see what he has got in the last 11 games of the season. If he brings something different or unique that may have potential going forward, we could give him a try next year. If its the same old same old, time to remove the entire coaching staff and get somebody new.

Gallant is a pretty intriguing option. He was great for the Panthers and really brought along that young time before he was axed for no justifiable reason.

Can we convert this to the official offseason thread? There is so much to discuss:

1. Draft. We may be in the range to grab Cody Glass. Started watching some of his clips, and he has a real knack for driving down the middle of the ice. Something this team really needs.

2. Coaching. Sutter gone already?

3. Cap Dumps. I would like to give Brown another chance with a new coach. He has been having a decent season, and never really lost that energy and physical play. Obviously though, if there is a taker with us giving up a package, it is a move you have to make. Gaborik, on the other hand, is done IMO. I don't think any team takes him and DL ends up buying him out.

4. Pearson and Toffoli contracts. $9.5 million combined would be ideal.

5. Free Agent signings? Depends largely on if we can dump Brown or Gaborik. Cap is going to be tight next season, and I don't see us grabbing anyone worthy.

6. Trades? Kings have to explore moving Martinez in a package for a top 6 forward. Not sure if we can make that deal considering how bad he played this season, but you never know what deal can be made.

7. Dean Lombardi. He has certainly made some mistakes in the past few seasons, but he is learning from his mistakes. I think if he refuses to fire Sutter after this season, then he has to go as well.

Pearson's new contract scares me. Praying they can get him to a Rakell like deal but that seems unlikely.

Dean could get super creative and free up a lot of cap space. LTIR Greene. Entice Vegas to take Lewis. Trade Gaborik and retain salary. Could free up $6 million in cap space right there.

The core is still damn good when they play like they can. Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Pearson, Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Quick. That's a great core 20 teams would kill for. Kings need to find some key free agents like San Jose did with Ward and Martin.

Most importantly though, Sutter has to go. I've fought for him as much as anyone but it's clear the team just isn't responding to him anymore. Great coach but no longer the right coach. He's killing the team. Cannot afford to waste anymore of the core players prime years. They're all in or exiting their prime already.

Edit: Also, find some damn international free agents! Enough with the "prove yourself in the AHL" BS. Talent wins games. I don't care if he doesn't play Kings hockey, if he has talent, put him in the damn lineup.

Losing Lucic was the final nail in the coffin. Dean's Summer of 16 might go down in the Kings Hall Of Shame right next to Sam McMaster.

I predicted before the season, and also during the season (while we were 2nd/3rd in the Pacific) that we'd finish 9th, and and it looks like we'll finish 9th. So everything has gone as expected.

I'm not disappointed. Disappointment comes from expectations, and I never had any.

7/8 of my Western predictions will be right, the only difference is that I had the Jets in the playoffs instead of the Oilers (whom I really underestimated).

I assume you're talking about Muzzin?

I still don't get that. He didn't commit even more bad money to the payroll. He let young guys earn some playing time. Considering the heat he takes for everything from June of 2014 to March of 2016, everything from June of 2016 to now should be praised. He's done everything people have been calling for. No more contracts. No more trading the future. Since the Sharks series last year, he has proven he no longer believes in this roster. Which is pretty much what everyone wanted him to realize since back around the trade for Sekera.

Last summer is what should've happened in the summer of 2014, regardless of what the result was in 2014. He's got to get some credit for finally doing the right thing, which was doing nothing.
