Lombardi+ Sutter are going no-where.

Once Quick went down, and Kopitar became Michael Handzus for 3+ months; that pretty much sealed any firing talk for both of them I would imagine.

Also from the comments of both Lombardi/Sutter, about middle of the pack team, it seems neither of them had faith this is a contending roster.

I wonder if that is what took Sutter so long to commit resigning. Sutter had to agree with taking steps back, and letting youth play.

Sutter's contract was for two seasons, and optional third.

Lombardi did, exactly what people advocated he do.

Play youth, don't trade draft picks, get rid of some older players (Dwight King). Don't add salary.

That's exactly how I see it. After the playoffs last year, Lombardi saw what the roster was. What his moves ended up being. I think he even saw it after 14-15. I think the Lucic deal was made because he wanted to make sure, as best he could, that the 2016 pick didn't turn into Matthews or Laine, because they already proved they can miss the playoffs. I think he believed in the 14-15 roster enough that he thought they could at least squeak into the playoffs that year. If that happens, the 2015 pick goes to Carolina instead of the 2016 pick. If that happens, I don't think Lucic is a King, because there's nothing not to lose in 15-16. Of course if Voynov doesn't do what he does, there's no need to get Sekera, and they either keep that pick, or it goes toward something else, adding to the team, instead of just filling a hole.

Unfortunately, Lombardi felt he owed the defending champs a chance. Then just like Richards individually, the team screwed him collectively.

Blues fan coming in peace. As two of the last teams in the league that valued size and physicality over speed and skill, I'd like to know what you guys think about the idea that the league has left us behind by getting speedier? We got gutted last year (albeit necessarily) and I'm wondering if you guys are planning on doing the same.

This team is better than what the record shows by far. I still hold hope that they can get on a long and strong winning streak to finish up. It's hard to see all this talent and structure and goal tending go to waste. Im gonna go ahead and say the KINGS will win 9 of their remaining games and go 9 - 0 - 2 ? !...i know they can do it lets hope they do. It starts tonight. Godspeed.

The Blues had a couple big UFA's. The Kings don't have that. Not this year anyway. The Kings have already gone away from the physicality part. There really aren't that many physical players on the roster. The only way they'll gut themselves is if they actually trade the middle class on the team. The guys that still have value and would be worth trading.

I still don't get that. He didn't commit even more bad money to the payroll. He let young guys earn some playing time. Considering the heat he takes for everything from June of 2014 to March of 2016, everything from June of 2016 to now should be praised. He's done everything people have been calling for. No more contracts. No more trading the future. Since the Sharks series last year, he has proven he no longer believes in this roster. Which is pretty much what everyone wanted him to realize since back around the trade for Sekera.

Last summer is what should've happened in the summer of 2014, regardless of what the result was in 2014. He's got to get some credit for finally doing the right thing, which was doing nothing.

The money he gave to those players could have been used on a reclamation product like Vanek who could have played with Kopitar. Anything is better than Purcell. It doesn't matter if you hand out 6 low dollar contracts but those matter when they all add up to a #1 LW. Dean wasted money, as he has in free agency repeatedly. And as far as giving ice time to the youth-take a look at Sutter's Stiffs like King, Nolan, Clifford-these guys have been getting regular minutes while players like Kempe struggle to come close to what King was at. Meanwhile as soon as King touches down in Montreal his ice time drops by 5 minutes. And this roster isn't gonna change any time soon. The damage has been done and it might get worse with Brown or Gaborik bought out. And we have the pleasure of Trevor Lewis eating up valuable minutes with zero skill, why was this clown re-signed and how in the hell was he a first round draft pick? That scout has to be selling Sham Wow's at a Walmart somewhere.

Keep hope alive! The Kings will win...

... the draft lottery!

Yeah that worked out so great the last time we won that.

We went from this...

Agreed with the bold, however I was in favor of the sekera deal and thought LA was going to re-sign him. I am naïve enough to believe that if the Richards crap had worked out earlier in free agency then Sekera would still be a King. Also I still believe the fact Richards was arrested halted a deal at the deadline that would have free'd LA of his cap hit, and allowed LA to do something else.

I also was in favor of the Lucic deal. LA got a top line winger for less than $4m a year for a goalie they were going to lose for nothing due to offer sheet, a mid first and a depth D. If that deal were to happen for a rental at the deadline people would say it were fair, however LA got a full year of Lucic. When you have the roster LA has/had you go for it while you can. Had DL not done a deals like Lucic/Sekera I imagine a lot of posters would be complaining that he is not doing enough and is wasting the kings cup window. Right now how many Capital Fans are pissed that the team has no picks in the first three rounds?

Maybe Vanek didn't want to stray too far from Minnesota. Maybe Lombardi has to give him more money and more years to get him to come here.

Wasn't Al Murray still the head scout when Lewis was drafted? Everyone seems to love his work in Tampa.

The young guys are still playing though. Have since the start of the season. Not as much as everyone other than Lombardi and Sutter would like, but they're still playing.

I was on board with the deals too. I'm just saying, it all goes back to Voynov. That's the fulcrum. A relatively cheap, signed, young, right handed, offensively productive, top 4 defenseman, lost for nothing, in a cap world. Unfortunately that happened after Gaborik signed. After Mitchell was let go. After Brown was signed.

Kings will go on run 10-0-0 in remaining games, and will win all series 4-1 in PO and win the cup for the 3rd time :naughty:

Sutter will go down in history as one of the greatest coaches of all time if he can manage that turnaround.
