Of course not. And most guys aren't of a high caliber of player to earn his contract. He championed the team to 3 cups and earned that deal.
The point was Kane didn't screw over the fans. The org gave him that contract and clause. Maybe they shouldn't hand them out so willingly if they know its gonna bite them in the ass later down the road.

Yep, they give him a NTC to reward him for his past service and then fans complain when he actually uses it. Maybe teams shouldn't give them out if they're just going to ask the player to waive at the first opportunity.

Yup.
Honestly id limit to players on 35+ contracts, and certain contract criteria being met.

A guy like Kane. For sure deserves it imo. But you got GMs giving them away to players like Gudbranson, Deslauriers, Forbort, Henrique, Hayes for instance. Just devalues it completely and makes trades stupid hard.

I don't blame the players asking for them.... I ask for the world in job/salary negotiations.... Blame the ones who are handing them out to everyone, and then being outraged when they get used.

Trades are good. A way to have more is ok with me. Keeps shit exciting. Freshens things up

Player movement is great for leagues imo. It's exciting and gets people talking.

What commonly shuts this site down?

Player movement via signing with new team in ufa.
Or a big trade.

I really dislike the 7-8 year contract length and the amount of NTCs given out.

I had an engaging conversation with a long time friend last night and we discussed at length the NMTC that many players across the league have signed into their contracts. As far as I know this kind of contract is not available in MLB, NFL, NBA etc.

Frankly it's really unfair that a market like Winnipeg, and I suspect a few other cities are unable to attract top talent.

We were debating whether the NHL should apply cap penalties to teams who sign players with NMTC. Maybe something to consider is for teams to say to players that if you want NMTC then you are going to get paid half a million less per year. In essence it will cost you something to have that clause attached.

Another consideration is capping the number of players on your team who can have NMTC. Maybe 2 or 3?
Other penalties to consider might be losing a draft pick or being moved further down.
I suspect there are a lot of options to explore to at least discourage NMTC.

I don't see the NHL being able to implement something like this as the NHLPA seems to have so much power. But I guess I can hope?

I just find it so frustrating that it's difficult to get players to come here.

Thoughts?

WOW! I have been thinking the same thing this past week! NMC should be as followed... You cannot be moved PERIOD or you waive your clause, THEN can be moved to ANY team that offers the best return. You cannot say "Which team will I go to?" Then decide yes or no

Gaurenteed contracts/money is better than what most proffesional athletes in other leagues get.

Atleast it should be amended to only be available for players who have 10 years experience or are over the age of 30. At that stage of their careers/age, they'll have family's.
Baseball is 10/5 (I believe)
10 years service and 5 years with the same team. Then it kicks in automatically.

Pick 6-7 random franchises. How much have they won since 93?

Is it shocking that 20% of the league haven't won year to year?

NTC NMC are never going away, players have the right to play where they and their family want to play and if a team give him this perk then that's just the way it is. Yes it effects the Jets most of all and certain trades will never happen which makes drafting the right players even more important to the success of the team cause top notch free agents are never coming here and veterans with this clause more certainly have the Jets on their no fly list.
Before the contract language players would just refuse to play somewhere. Get traded and not report, force a trade somewhere else. At least that crap barely happens anymore.

Yup at least now you know where you stand, oh player A doesn't want to come here I will go try for player B of course you might need to get to player G by the time you can make a deal.
