Teams don't get those seeing eye singles against the Royals because

1) they are incredible defensively
2) their advanced scouting is insanely good

I must admit I found it kinda funny how ppl were saying KC would lose to the Mets anyways after we lost to them. The same ppl who thought home field in the playoffs didn't matter. I guess it is a hockey forum after all.

What is Zobrist going to command this offseason...5 year 100Million? If the Jays are going for it next season then they should try to sign him.

Well, its like the Jays were built for the Rogers, and the Royals were built for Kauffman's.

Royals are built for any stadium imo. They hit and get on base and don't rely on homeruns, even though they can hit them.

According to The Buffalo News, Alex Anthopoulos knew he was probably making a last-stand for himself and manager John Gibbons in 2015 if the Jays didn’t get to the postseason, and he certainly wanted to try to get there one last time for outgoing president Beeston.

The Buffalo Bisons of the 90s were built by Mark Shapiro and rebuilt again to championship levels by then-Cleveland farm directors Neil Huntington and John Farrell while Shapiro was the GM. Sure, there were veteran free agents. But there were young prospects everywhere. The Cleveland way was to go with the names like Brian Giles, Sean Casey, Bartolo Colon, Richie Sexson, Grady Sizemore, Jhonny Peralta, Brandon Phillips, Victor Martinez and so many more.

Yes, some of them did get traded. But the Indians had a stocked big-league club and were in their glory days. And many of them (think Peralta, Martinez, Ryan Garko and Fausto Carmona) graduated to the big leagues to form a core of the 2007 club that got a game away from the World Series.

You can see both sides here. Anthopoulos knew he was probably making a last-stand for himself and manager John Gibbons in 2015 if the Jays didn’t get to the postseason, and he certainly wanted to try to get there one last time for outgoing president Beeston.

At age 70, Beeston was one of the Jays’ original employees in 1976 and is one of the most beloved figures in Toronto. Rogers had clumsily tried to run him out last winter, making overtures to Baltimore’s Dan Duquette and Chicago’s Kenny Williams, among others, before taking Beeston back for one more year.

Anthopoulos pushed Oakland hard for Josh Donaldson and finally made the deal last winter for Brett Lawrie and a prospect haul that included two pitchers who ended the year with the Bisons (Sean Nolin and Kendall Graveman) and 19-year-old shortstop Franklin Barreto, who hit .302 this season at Class A Stockton.

To get Tulowitzki, Anthopoulos gave pitcher Jeff Hoffman, his No. 1 pick in 2014, and hard-throwing 20-year-old Miguel Castro. To get David Price, the sacrifice off the Bisons roster was pitchers Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd.

And while watching the Mets in the World Series, what do you think Shapiro thinks of Noah Syndergaard and Travis D’Arnaud for R.A. Dickey?

This is not Shapiro’s style. Remember how the Bisons of the 90s were built by Shapiro and rebuilt again to championship levels by then-Cleveland farm directors Neil Huntington and John Farrell while Shapiro was the GM.

The Indians have almost always been patient, sometimes to a fault. But sometimes, you have to go for it and that’s what Anthopoulos did.

That's a crock of nonsense. You don't get to have a top-5 offensive stats by being built for the Skydome. Same goes for Kansas.

every team is to some degree built to take advantage of the park they play the most games in. But any decent team (especially playoff teams) is obviously built to go beyond just that strategy and play well regardless of where they are.

So are the Jays built for Rogers Centre? Yeah, to an extent. But they're also just built to be damn ****ing good at hitting a baseball regardless of location.

According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, Tony LaCava is expected to be the next general manager of the Blue Jays on interim basis.

http://www.torontosun.com/2015/10/31/lacava-likely-the-jays-next-gm-on-interim-basis

NEW YORK — Tony LaCava is expected to be the next general manager of the Blue Jays.

Except LaCava, one of the Jays’ two current assistant GMs, will have that dreaded word added in front of his title.

Interim.

Where does new president Mark Shapiro search to find someone without the word interim?

Well, he should be looking for both a short-term and long-term answer.

With both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion entering the final year of their contracts in 2016, the Jays certainly are not in any re-building mode. Their complete batting lineup returns, yet they need to build up their starting rotation as they try to repeat on this year’s post-season success.

Of the top busiest starters this season R.A. Dickey (33 starts), Mark Buehrle (32), Marco Estrada (28), Drew Hutchison (28), David Price (11), Aaron Sanchez (11) and Marcus Stroman (four), there are few lead-pipe, locks for rotation spots.

Shaprio, who has been working in the Cleveland Indians presidential suite at Progressive Field, has not been through the day-to-day workings of a GM since 2010. He needs an experienced man to help put a starting staff together quickly before this Bautista-Encarnacion window slams shut.

Not for us to suggest any possible selections, but here are two excellent qualified GMs if we do dare say so:

n Kevin Towers, 53, who has experience as GM of both the San Diego Padres (1995–2009) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2010–2014), is now a special assistant with the Cincinnati Reds. Four times the Padres made the post-season, losing the 1998 World Series to the Yankees and the Diamondbacks advanced once.

Towers is the man to usher in new arms.

n Dan Jennings, 55, is a free agent. He was hired by the Miami Marlins in 2002, became assistant GM in 2007 and GM in 2013. The Marlins fired manager Mike Redmond and named Jennings manager. The Blue Jays were in Houston in May at the time of the change. One scout at Minute Maid sent Jennings a text “Congrats ... on your demotion.”

After the Marlins went 55–69, owner Jeffrey Loria fired Jennings this week. He is owed $5.6 million US on his contract. The Jays could probably pay him $500,000 with the Marlins paying the rest. That would fit into the Rogers Communications budget.

Both are experienced baseball men.

Now, if Shapiro goes down an analytical path ... that would be a different GM.

According to CBS Sports, Shapiro will announce the interim structure soon, and it is expected Tony La Cava will be the interim GM. Ross Atkins, an assistant GM in Cleveland, is thought to be one possibility for the long-term job, as might be La Cava. Manager John Gibbons is expected to be asked to remain in 2016. One name to watch for the future could be Eric Wedge, a Shapiro favorite, for some role with the Jays.

Shapiro will announce the interim structure soon, and it is expected Tony La Cava, who he hired as a national crosschecker in Cleveland and was an assistant GM under Anthopoulos, will be the interim GM. Ross Atkins, an assistant GM in Cleveland, is thought to be one possibility for the long-term job, as might be La Cava. Since the Indians allowed him to interview for the Phillies' GM job, it might be hard for them to decline a similar opportunity in Toronto, just because their ex-president Shapiro is there ... Manager John Gibbons, an Anthopoulos ally, is expected to be asked to remain in 2016. He has a year to go on his contract. One name to watch for the future could be Eric Wedge, a Shapiro favorite, for some role with the Jays.

I like Lacava, I hope he's a GM going forward. He's well regarded in the baseball world. Most expected him to take over after JP.

I just hope they keep Tinnish and the amateur scouting dept. intact, and that Anthopoulos doesn't raid it for all its worth when he gets another GM job.

LaCava is interesting because he's not a #s/analytics guy, but Shapiro is known for wanting to stay ahead of the curve.

Jennings and Towers seem like laughable "options" for a GM position though. Jennings presided over some of the most garbagey years of the garbage Loria era of the garbage Marlins franchise, and Towers rode that one good year in San Diego into a long, sustained death spiral with the Padres and Diamondbacks, marked by godawful trades and poor asset management.

Towers in particular would seem to also be fond of the very thing that Shapiro is alleged to have disliked about Anthopoulos' strategy: periodically emptying the farm for big-league talent. Except where AA sold off prospects to acquire the presumptive MVP at a premium position, a cy-young calibre starter on rental, a top shelf SS, and lesser light prospects for quality pen arms, Towers has gone out and traded Arizona's top end prospects for rejects like Mark Trumbo, and Trevor Cahill. Anthopoulos turned Roy Halladay having him backed into a corner to do a Phillies trade into 3 highly regarded prospects that have resulted in one starting C (albeit not with the Jays), Michael Taylor being chained into Devon Travis, and Kyle Drabek (hey, can't win 'em all). The D'backs had Justin Upton, a general desire for him to go to Atlanta, but not nearly the leverageless situation the Jays had, and all the time in the world to figure things out. They walked away with pretty good, but-in-his-30s utility man Martin Prado, and good reliever Randall Delgado.

I'd like this

Ross Atkins, an assistant GM in Cleveland, is thought to be one possibility for the long-term job, as might be La Cava

I dunno about that.

Manager John Gibbons is expected to be asked to remain in 2016

Meh.

One name to watch for the future could be Eric Wedge, a Shapiro favorite, for some role with the Jays.

Oh dear god, **** no.
