According to Tretiak, KHL will not stop the league and release players. Given how few Russian players there are left in the NHL, it makes it very unlikely that Russia will play.

This is a massive blow to the World Cup , frankly makes it a exhibition tournament. Maybe the russian players could join the Europe team, though i doubt they would personally.

If I didn't forget my native language, Tretyak said that KHL won't make any break, but will actually release NT players for World Cup.

I'm going with a swedish translation of the article, which might be BS.

It is, direct translation of Tretyak's quote from the source: "Likely our league won't have to release more than 10 to 12 players anyway" (which was said in context that KHL definitely can survuve that without any break).

I wouldn't care if NHL teams didin't let their top players go.. As long as the Euro Leftovers and Canada-Usa u23 group is there, nothing stops me hating it. This kind of joke tournaments will never be accepted in hockey.. Fans love this sport.

If this is the definitive translation, thread title should be edited before this thread gets even to the 2nd page.

The definitive translation is that the league will not shut down for the World Cup farce, but a decision on that will be made in consultation with the clubs at some point in the future. At any rate, they expect 10-12 players would have to be released by their KHL teams to participate in the NHL preseason exhibition nonsense.

Should've just taken the Top 8 teams in the IIHF rankings at the end of this year's WC *which is a farce as well - being played during the Stanley Cup Playoffs*

Good. Hopefully all countries follow.

Edit: Or bad. Don't release players for this Mickey Mouse crap.

I wish everyone would follow Russia when it comes to not giving ****s. HOCKEY RELATED ONLY. This tournament is likely going to be incredibly embarrassing for hockey and hockey fans, and the KL seems to be acknowledging it's irrelevancy.

Forwards
Ovechkin, Malkin, Tarasenko, Kucherov, Datsyuk, Kuznetsov, Yakupov, Kulemin, Anisimov, Semin, Grigorenko, Namestnikov

Defencemen
Markov, Kulikov, Tyutin, Emelin, Nesterov, Nikitin, Zadorov, Gonchar?, Voynov?

Goalies
Varlamov, Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy

This is just pulled from NHL.com of current NHLers but their roster still isn't bad with only NHLers. Toss in a rookie or two that might have a breakout season next year and you've got a lineup that can absolutely complete.

Why is everyone hating on this tournament so much?

Yikes...

Because its a complete joke.
NHL trying to make the Olympics irrelevant or whatever the reason is...
Lets make those funny teams playing each others so we don't have to pause for the Olympics.
It's like cancelling the playoffs to make a 2nd all star game at the end of the season

Tretjak says, they will not stop KHL but have no problem letting 10-12 KHL regulars go and compete for the world cup, this is non issues it seems

im sorry... but what are you rambling on about?

its a tournament to replace being in the Olympics. yes, the NHL does not want to participate in it anymore. what exactly is the problem with that? it makes perfect sense as to why.

secondly, IIRC the players like the idea and enjoyed it while it was around. it is just like the world cup of soccer. more emphasis on the hockey aspcect. if the players enjoy it and it makes the NHL more money; I dont see how that is a bad thing at all.

third; we dont have to take a break for it? or worry about the host country not allowing us to participate? and it will mean more attention and money for the NHL? gee Bettman idk, sounds too good to be true if you ask me... lol

i think people just like to complain about every change, cant make em all happy.

..... You do know this isn't the first World Cup...(1996 and 2004..not to mention the Canada Cups prior) And you do know the last one was insanely entertaining. You also know this has absolutely nothing to do with the Olympics in the slightest. Completely irrelevant.

This could be insanely entertaining aswell. This tourney, however, has always been irrelevant.
