No fans

Embarrassing attendance once again. Should have put this tournament in a different country.
You truly feel a tournament in say Sweden or Czech would draw crowds in august? Heck the Ostrava WJC crowds for any game without Canada was bad, I was there for every game. The Czech fans are amazing but they weren’t filling the rink for any game and the rink capacity was under 9000. Canada had 1500 fans in Ostrava for every game.

There are probably close to zero humans making their entertainment decisions based on the narrative that hockey has a culture problem. All this noise is the kind of thing you only hear about on Reddit or HFBoards, but talking to people in real life, nobody gives a darn. It's all politics.

Go on Twitter and report back.

Maybe, maybe not. But the tournament would have already been completed at its normal time if Hockey Canada didn't screw it up.

I can think of a million of places I would rather be than in a rink right now

That's hockey playing weather where I come from!

I don't think this tournament would be well supported anywhere this time of year which probably says *something* about the overall appeal of international hockey even in hotbeds of the sport.

The only reason is Canada.
Wrong place to organize international tournaments.
They care only about NHL and AHL.
Here training matches before the season starts have good attendance and if there were important games, they would sell out. Last winter they screwed up the corona bubble in Canada because of some f****** wedding and the tournament had to be canceled. I wrote back then on YouTube comments that they shouldn't be allowed to organize any tournaments for at least 10 years. Weak IIHF gave back this tournament to Canada and they didn't give a s*** although they should have been committed to prove that they can do it. When a country doesn't care about sports, then just ignore it.
All international tournaments should be in countries where people are interested in that sports and not just about league (NHL, AHL) or players (Crosby, McDavid). Canada is wrong place to organize anything. Hockey is dead there.
I am not Canadian, but this might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on these boards and I first found this place around 1999, 2000ish. Hockey is dead in Canada, yeah ok.

Every single game involving the Czech Republic was sold out, not sure what are you talking about.

im willing to bet a large portion of the people who are claiming to boycott HC on twitter and social media don't actually follow through or aren't interested in hockey to begin with, as with most boycotts calls on social media, the people doing to boycotting are the ones who don't buy the product in the first place.

I should also add that I don't support the SA and subsequent cover up, but im not going to boycott my favourite past time over it, rather I'll just add my voice to those calling for change within HC.

Honestly I didn't even know the WJC was happening until I saw Bedards goal in the first game

People get like 3 weeks vacation generally in Canada (can be more after a a while but 3 is the baseline)

I can't imagine many people with to use 3-4 of their 15 days to go see wjc games in the final days of summer

Been on vacation in the UK for the past couple of weeks and barely followed the tournament. Not surprised by how the attendance has turned out, but for reasons that some people haven't considered.

1) Its summer time and people would rather be outside and doing things rather then sit indoors watching hockey.

2) With travel restrictions loosening, people are going to travel out of town at this time. Choosing between ticket prices or putting the money towards your trip is a no briner.

3) Players choosing to opt out is surprising since they have training camps coming off the back of this tournament. They would rather focus on that than such a tournament.

4) Russia not being here reduces a potential fan drawing event. Canada-USA final might be the best hope in the end.

5) People still being sour over the tournament being cancelled mid stream.
