Confirmed Signing with Link: [NJD] F Tomas Nosek signs with the Devils (1 year, $1M)

Good foot soldier for the 4th line and an excellent role player. Due to the fluid nature of hockey, I don't normally buy into zone start stats but when there as remarkably slanted as Nosek's were ( 90 percent defensive zone starts ) I take notice. He was basically the Bruins' Atlas with all the heavy lifting he did in the defensive zone. He's pretty much an auto faceoff win at the dot, great PK'er, bigger body that can make some plays around the net on offense. Wish him all the best; he'll fit in well with the Devil's stacked forward lineup.

I have always liked his game and I think he will be a very good fit for NJ.
Our bottom 6 needed some work and so far I like what Fitz has done . Sharangovich Boqvist and Wood were not the answer in the bottom 6 (I didn’t mind Boqvist but wasnt tough enough in board battles ) .
Defensively sound plus good at face offs . Nice add IMO.

Just another solid, no-nonsense signing by Fitz. Nosek is a solid 4th liner, effective on the PK. That's all they need from their 4th line. This is also keeps Lazar as the 13th forward (a more suitable spot for him) and Tierney in Utica.

Nosek - Mcleod - Bastian

There's one roster spot open for Holtz, Clarke, or possibly Foote to compete for.

Decent role player but nearly negative offensive value in a league where scoring depth is necessary. He did attempt to fight on behalf of Pastrnak twice this past season and learned a lesson on avoiding fighting.

Nosek did play wing in Vegas. He might be better suited for 4LW duties than Nolan Foote, but we'll see.

Meier-Hughes-Toffoli
Bratt-Hischier-Mercer
Palat-Haula-(Holtz/Clarke)
Nosek-McLeod-Bastian
Foote-Lazar

Foote requires waivers ?

Tierney is ticketed for the AHL - he split time between the AHL & NHL last season and is on a two-way contract.

That leaves two roster spots open - Foote has the inside track as the staff has been high on him and he would have to pass through waivers if sent back to the AHL, whereas Holtz and Clarke do not. Have to imagine Holtz presses for the other spot - which is a tough break for Clarke, who had a good camp last year and great season in the AHL. Would have to imagine he gets some time with the big club this season though.

This is a sneaky good signing for New Jersey as Nosek was one of the best defensive players and one of the best faceoff players in the league last season.

Nosek was a big reason why Boston had the best penalty kill last season and was golden on the defensive zone draws.

Nosek was 6th in faceoff percentage last season (minimum 100 faceoffs).

Devils needed PK depth at forward to replace Rango, especially since they also lost Graves and Sevs on the backend for it which means there’s gonna be some significant Bahl/Miller minutes probably.

It’s a good no-risk move at a good price. Fitz still killing it.

Foote requires waivers ?

I believe so since he's a late 2000 birthday, so he has an extra pro year compared to other 2001 birthdays in the 2019 draft class. CapFriendly has him as requiring waivers but now I have a headache reading through the waivers calculation FAQ. Kinda similar to say last year when Martin Kaut (October 1999) required waivers but somebody like Grigori Denisenko (June 2000) didn't; Both were 2018 draft picks.

At any rate, Foote probably has the inside track to a roster spot because of his waiver status. But he might not be one of the 12 dressed on opening night.

Very interesting player, if i was him i would just live in a motel and bank every cent i could get before it's over. Then go home and say "guys you wont f***ing believe this, i made 10 million playing hockey".

He was shit in Red Wings and Griffins, then he was shit in Vegas, then he was shit in Boston and now Devils sign him, what a career! Must feel like a scrooge mcduck.

Re: bolded, yes, I said that. 13th spot is for Lazar. That leaves one spot open in the lineup for a forward prospect. Then perhaps a 14th forward spot.

Devils will take a step back.

Nosek is not a good player.
They dropped the wrong players (Wood, Severson, Graves).
They did not resign the correct player (Tatar)
They did not get rid of weak players (Haula, Lazar, Marino)
Their offense from the D in the playoffs is why they did not advance. I'm not sure the new players will be able to add so much offense.
Too much turn over.

Toffoli is the only good signing.

You’re so wrong that you couldn’t even get the objective portion of it right lol

You think Haula is a bad player? You think one of the best shut down dmen in Marino is a bad player?

Did you see how much Wood/Severson/Graves got paid? How do you see those contracts fitting on the Devils?

How is adding Luke Hughes a negative for offence from the D?

Tatar was a holdover player to get the Devils into the playoffs. Now they have Toffoli and Meier full time.

This post is very off the mark.

No he’s on the last year of his ELC. His ELC slid 2 years.

CapFriendly has Foote requiring waivers this season. Apparently it's due to Foote signing in 2019 and the age calculation for waivers is different than other aspects of the CBA. Foote being a late 2000 birthday means one less year of exemption than somebody in his draft class who was born in 2001. Martin Kaut went on waivers last season and he was still on his ELC.

Dear Lord. The Internet is forever and you had to write this. Tough break.

The devils may take a step back (hard to improve on the greatest regular season in team history) but there's some bad stuff in this post

In order:
1) He's fine. He's not a top 6 guy, but he's a nice 4th line addition that covers up some weak spots departing players have left. He's not expected to be anything more than that. He's honestly better than Wood at this point, too.
2) Wood is bad, Graves is medicore, and Severson is admittedly a big loss. Team couldn't reasonable afford any of them, but Severson was on the 3rd pairing and Graves has an in house replacement in Hughes who is, I personally guarantee, going to be better than him this season, even with rookie growing pains.
3) I would have liked Tatar back at the right price, but I'd rather have Meier and Toffoli and with those guys there's not a ton of top 9 room so where's he going to play?
4) Haula was good for the Devils, and hits a huge flexible need. He's not a world beater but he's a good to great 3rd liner, which is all the Devils need. Lazar didn't play for the devils at all, but is also the devils 13th or 14th forward so who cares. Marino isn't as good as some Devils fans think, but he's a defensive guy on a team and pairing that needs one, and is absolutely a good 2nd pairing guy.
5) No they didn't advance because Meier was unfortunately hugely snakebit, and the goaltending was a mess (probably due to overwork). Blueline offense is part of why the team didn't do well, but Hughes and Nemec are both going to be fixes for that as soon as this season. I am absolutely unconcerned about blueline offense moving forward with Hamilton, Hughes, and Nemec.
6) The Devils bring back 5 members of their top 6, and 9 or 10 members of their starting 12. They bring 3 of their top 4 defenseman and 4 of 6. They are bringing back both goalies they went into the playoffs with. That's more turnover than i would like on the d corps, but less than most teams up front.

7) Toffoli is a great trade acquisition.
