Was discussing the possibility that Hughes spend time in the AHL this season after someone brought up Simon Nemec being sent down now that Johnathan Kovacevic has emerged as a veteran presence on the blue line for the Devils.

Rather than hijacking the Nemec thread further figured I'd comment here.

Of all the defensemen taken in the first round in his draft year, all but Hughes and Owen Power spent time in the AHL.

Given his long injury layoff, Luke would benefit from time in Utica fully developing his game - while he and Nemec likely add juice to what has been an anemic scoring Comets' team. At 6-3 and 24 years old, Danyil Misyul seems more physically fit to play diminished third pair minutes than either the still growing Simon or Luke does.
was trolling on my own team's board, but i didn't get the reaction i was hoping for because they know my shtick at this point, so here i am.

This isn’t the board for this. If a NJ poster wants to air out thr NJ board dirty laundry in public at least do it in the correct place. This has nothing to do with any contract or free agency discussion. It maybe passes as a general NHL topic. Even then it’s really a NJ board topic for one poster.

Gaurentee he's an older fan, we watched the Devils win with great 2 way players like Stevens, Elias and Niedermayer leading the way. The idea that teams can win with players that are not great defensably is hard for some to understand.
I'm 50 and I have been a die-hard Devils fan since their inaugural season in 82-83 when my dad took me to a game. I absolutely love the extremely gifted offensively minded players like Jack and Luke. He just actually seems to hate the Devils.

Luke played just over 17 minutes while Pesce played 20+ minutes.

Sheltering Hughes against Anaheim is one thing. Pretending he is a top two pairing defender is another story.

And what teams have won Stanley Cups without defending?
First guy never called Hughes/Pesce a top pairing and I didn't say teams win without defending. Simply that it isn't required to have every player playing a super strong 2 way game any more to win. McDavid and Bouchard just came 1 game short of winning the Cup and neither of those guys are ever mentioned as being particularly good in their own end.

I'm old too, I watched the Stanley Cup wins live and completely agree with you. Just pointing out that it's usually an older fan like us that saw them win that take issue with players that are basically only offense.

We had a 4 goal lead going into the 3rd period in a game with very little PP time for NJ. No need to play him a ton.

Those two play with guys like Darnell Nurse, Mattias Ekholm and Brett Kulak on the blueline.

And while Evan Bouchard is a point per game score, he was also +34 last year.

Nurse is a train wreck in his own end, Kulak is decent but not great. The Devils have Pesce, Siegenthaler and Dillon to take the defensive end so players like Hughes can think offense. You seem to allow other teams to have offensive players but if the Devils do you hate them. Also plus minus is a useless stat used by people that have no leg to stand on in their argument.

I suspect that we agree on LHughes (I am not a fan at all of the TikTok/globetrotter playstyle) but just recently we’ve had Pittsburgh winning 2 cups 1 of which without a 1D and JSchultz running the offense from the backend. We saw Washington win with Carlson and Colorado win with Makar. NJ doesn’t have a fwd the lvl of their top guy but they have Hischier. I think that can make up for it

You’re original argument was Misyul should get his minutes instead, because he’s 24 and 6’3”.

Misyul played 12:23 in his one game. Keefe even mentioned in a pre-game interview that Misyul was playing in part because management wanted to see what they had in him.

Misyul got a cup of coffee because of a void at left due to multiple injuries, he’s not playing over Luke Hughes nor should he.

Casey was averaging 10:17 at Even Strength, so he obviously wasn’t working there either.

The best LHD in our minors system, Hatakka, is out after shoulder surgery.

Sorry but we don’t have a replacement for Luke.

That first sentence is really something.

There’s one very excellent high-end defenseman in there and two that aren’t that. I mean, life’s too short to care about Brett Kulak, but I know Darnell Nurse isn’t helping out anyone defensively.

Last season Bouchard most played with Ekholm. And the forwards he played with put up a lot of points:

50? Holy cow, are you old. How long does it take you to type out your post using one finger for the entire keyboard? Can you see the screen through those coke bottle lensed bifocals? Do you need me to cut your apple sauce for you before you eat it? Good news though, there is a sale on depends at the local CVS.

When I am done yelling at the Hughes brothers to get off my lawn at the nursing home, I have an orderly type my replies on HF.

Lol citing +/-

Hughes is a significantly better defender than Bouchard.

I wonder why Bouchard's +/- was so high??

With McDavid or Draisaitl on the ice at 5v5:
75GF 42GA +33

Without them?
19GF 16GA +3

Meanwhile Hughes was +9 (48GF 39GA) at 5v5 without Brendan Smith, on a significantly worse team. Which you continue to ignore.

where else can he propose to waive jack and luke? and while we are at it, can we waive quinn as well? i don't think vancouver and their fans should have any opinion on it.

I don't think the trade board is the place to discuss how NJ should develop their players.
