Confirmed Trade: [NJD/CGY] Tyler Toffoli for Yegor Sharangovich and 3rd in 2023 (#80)

Decent pickup fir the Devils but I was hoping that they shave cap space and go after Hellebuyck .
But maybe they still can . Imagine the Devils add Helle and Luke / Nemec hit their stride

Yegor is a good player and I bet he has a bounce back year for Calgary. He couldn’t crack the lineup in the back half of the year, so I thought we would lose value on him. Toffoli is a good replacement for letting Tatar walk, they make very similar money with toffoli being more proven as a playoff performer. I like the trade, essentially getting a rental player out of the way in the summer. Really improves the top 9 and just makes the devils a deeper team.

This trade makes me feel slightly better as a Habs fan for the first + Heineman that I thought was bad (granted he was under contract for longer at a decent price)

The Flames have now lost the Toffoli trade twice. Overpaid for him and moved him for too little.

Toffoli drives fans insane with his inconsistency and disappearing acts. If you don't fall victim to thinking he'll find that next tier (he won't) when he's on a hot streak he's an easy player to appreciate, frustrating flaws included. And the Devils didn't have to give up much.

Sharangovich is another streaky player that dissapears for large stretches of a season. I wish we had traded him in the Meier deal instead of Zetterlund because the guy is just not made for playoff hockey. Too soft and too streaky.
Him and Blackwood were the last two players on the team I considered as "deadweight". They were just there filling a roster spot.

Every team Tyler has played on, he's been a key part in their success. Every single one. The guy is built for the playoffs.
His numbers are actually brutal in the playoffs. Way worse than regular season. He's at .5 ppg and a significant minus player despite playing with good players mostly. He was certainly brutal for us in the playoffs.

it's possible if they hardball the RFAs and Nemec is ready (or they get a real cheap 3RD, but it'd be tight

Seems like an okay deal for Calgary. Given they're dealing from the inherently disadvantaged position of Conroy telling everyone to f*** off.

Sharangovich isn't a great player, but he's a solid middle-6 scorer who can do a little bit of defence and PK stuff.

Toffoli is a goal-scorer who doesn't really do anything else whatsoever. But if he clicks with one of Hughes/Hischier, it'll be magic. And then a new contract that is terrible.
He’s almost assuredly a rental. Doubt he gets another deal in New Jersey. The one year is a plus if anything.

Just a dumb trade from the Flames. The need for some of these GM’s to acquire back players is resulting in them, losing trades. Its a problem for teams like Calgary, Vancouver etc. instead of trying to get the best deal, they want players to stay competitive. Ownership is meddling in these trades. Embrace the mediocrity I guess.

This acquisition has no bearing on a Hellebyuck trade

We'd be moving back half of Hellebyuck's incoming cap in Vanecek's deal and Tofolli is only signed to one year

Hellebyuck's 6m caphit this season is what allows this to be possible

I highly doubt they’ll re-sign him after this year no matter how well he does. They’re letting Tatar walk because he doesn’t fit their timeline. Toffoli is some help for this year without the need to commit to a 30+ yo long term contract.
