Confirmed Trade: [NJD/CGY] Tyler Toffoli for Yegor Sharangovich and 3rd in 2023 (#80)

You really don't have to. Situationally, faceoffs can be important. I'm not sweating them in general
I don’t think you have to either, but I think Lindy had demonstrated he does, and his opinion is more likely to shape the lines than yours or mine.

I don’t like Toffoli’s foot speed at even strength on any line. I like him on the power play but … no matter which of the top 3 lines he lands on at even strength he stands to be the slowest guy on the line, doesn’t he?

I wonder what the cost would be. If they got him and resigned Meier... not to mention plug in Nemec and Luke Hughes... that team is loaded top to bottom.

A 50% Helly won't cost that much, I'd very much like him in NJ if we can do what the Avs did with Kuemper. Issue is they gave up Timmins and a first while our first is tied in the Timo trade still.

Not sure how much I like this. TT doesn't really match our speed profile. But he's a great finisher and smart player, could look good finishing plays setup by Hughes and Bratt.

Can this guy skate? Flames really need to improve their overall speed.

I wonder how much of it is to give Holtz a mentor too, Toffoli has the IQ that Holtz hasn't shown but he's basically the same exact player.

Best of luck to Toffoli. Dude skates in quick sand but has a wicked nose for the net, he’ll do good in NJ.

You jackals won this trade by miles. You don't need more puck control and puck carrying. You have tons of that. We need that. Backlund is our best puck carrier. We moved out 34 goals at 4.25 for a 3rd line forward ( I do like Sharangovich ) and a 3rd round pick. This is what I was scared of. We should be doing straight futures, but instead we will be acquiring players for these guys are remain at the classic Flames spot picking 16th overall.

Nah, they'd need Kane for that according to your posts from the playoffs. :sarcasm:

Adding Toffoli instantly makes the Devil's much more playoff proven. Especially when NJ had extreme difficulty scoring against the Canes this playoffs, who Carolina eventually couldn't score on Florida. Tyler is clutch in the playoffs and he's been to the Cup finals, will be great mentorship for the young NJ squad.

Seems like an okay deal for Calgary. Given they're dealing from the inherently disadvantaged position of Conroy telling everyone to f*** off.

Sharangovich isn't a great player, but he's a solid middle-6 scorer who can do a little bit of defence and PK stuff.

Toffoli is a goal-scorer who doesn't really do anything else whatsoever. But if he clicks with one of Hughes/Hischier, it'll be magic. And then a new contract that is terrible.

Don't worry about it. He's a solid goalscoring winger. He could score 40 with Hughes.
