Another thing we can potentially do with the 5 keepers is introduce a rule that 1 of the 5 keepers must be a "rookie" keeper.

A rookie keeper could be defined as a player with 2 seasons or less. A season is considered 20 games or more.

For example Dustin Wolf played 1 game last season and 17 games this season. He still has 3 seasons of rookie keeper eligibility because he hasnt yet played 20 games in a season yet.

Where the likes of Bedard and Luke Hughes has rookie eligiblity for 2024-25 and 2025-26 season but lose their rookie eligibility for 2026-27 assuming they play 20 games or more in each of the next 2 seasons.

Basically this will allow more quality players to go into the draft pool and force teams to pick up a young player with 2 seasons or less via draft or waiver wire to fill the mandatory rookie keeper slot.

If we were to introduce this rule, it would have to apply in 12 months time to allow teams to plan for the new rule and potentially adjust their draft strategy. Drafting Celebrini over a player like Jesper Bratt could be favored because he has 3 years of rookie keeper eligibility.

I've never done a fantasy league where picks have been traded. How does that work? Do we HAVE to keep 5 players? What's the draft order?
You DO have to keep 5 players and when trading picks you need to get a pick in return for your pick traded so everyone has equal number of picks in the draft.

First 5 round picks in the draft is designated for keepers. Therefore first available pick to trade is 6th round.

Using Kempe example, if BG is willing to accept a 6th round pick for Kempe, then the deal would be, BG sends Kempe and his last round pick for a 6th round pick.

As a result the team acquiring Kempe loses a mid round pick for a potential keeper and has two picks in the last round.

And BG will have two 6th round picks for a player he wasnt going to keep as one of his five.

I think the rookie keeper is a good idea. I would phase it in a little slower however, say next off season 5 keepers plus the rookie, then the year after 4 keepers plus the rookie.

I don't know if I would want to "penalize" the playoff winner with handicapping them. I think there's a lot of luck to the playoffs.

one thing that i find helps with keepers is... putting a limit on the studs.

So that can mean a guy being kept only for 3 years.

or

You can't keep a guy drafted in the first 2 rounds (though that would be tough given the history of the league). That kind of only works at the start of a league - but it does promote the keeper aspect (taking shots at guys who may breakout). Maybe someone can have a thought related to it.

I ran a league for awhile... and the keeper rules were a bit complicated. We did a combination of the above. But ultimately it worked around the idea that studs were available each year.

I do a football league where we only keep one guy but you can't keep him back to back. So like last year I kept Nick Chubb, drafted him the year prior, can't keep him this year.

That wouldn't work here but maybe lowering the limit of 5 or something would help spread the wealth.

Woohoo we’re back!

I have selected my 5 keepers (I believe the rules are 5 keepers, of which no more than one can be a goalie, right?)

I didn’t see any interface to select keepers in the Yahoo Fantasy app. And Yahoo Fantasy forces opening the app if you have it installed. I had to uninstall the app to be able to actually go to my team in a web browser and select my keepers.

Yahoo gonna Yahoo. “We’ll force you to use our app that doesn’t actually support our own features!”

Hi all,

I have renewed the league for this upcoming year. The first games of the season are Friday, 10/4, so we have to figure out draft day. But, first things first, please respond here or send me a message through the league that you will play again this year (Billdo, tmg, Bojanglez, billingtons, I know you're all in). I am tagging everyone in this post, so hopefully they see it.

Draft Day Options
1. I know Billdo really wants a weekday draft, but I don't know how that works for everyone else. We can do Monday, 9/30 - Thursday, 10/3. If we are going to do this, I can only do 9:15pm or later as I have child commitments until then.
2. Weekend before the start of the season (Friday, 9/27, Saturday, 9/28, or Sunday, 9/29). If Sunday, I can do after 9:15pm). I can do any time after 5pm on Friday, 9/27 or any time on Saturday, 9/28 after 2:15pm.

Does anyone have a preference. Keeper deadline will be 1 week before the draft, so this is coming up!

League Rule Change Options
I saw some of the chatter about some rule changes, but I didn't see anything really jump out. I still would like to increase movement/trades, but don't have a good idea on how to do it. We only have a week or so to agree on something, so I'm inclined to let us keep things as-is. But, happy to discuss.

Keeper Rules Reminder
5 keepers, 1 of which can be a goalie. Keeper deadline will be 1 week before the draft.

Traded Draft Picks
As far as I know, no draft picks were traded.

This Year's Draft Order:
1 - Billdo @Billdo -- in
2 - tmg @tmg -- in
3 - Concussion Junction @Henry Killinger
4 - Number 1 Team @MakoSlade
5 - JustWin @Just Win
6 - Rented Mule @south jersey devil

7 - HBK27 @HBK27
8 - KovalchukFistPump @Mr Bojanglez
9 - Book Him Dano @SJinNewJersey
19 - PopsFreshenmeyer @Pops Freshenmeyer -- in
11 - Peter Sidorkiewicz @PeterSidorkiewicz
12 - billingtons ghost @billingtons ghost -- in

We really need to end billingtons' dynasty, guys! He has won 3 in a row; 4 out of the last 7; and came in 2nd one of the years he didn't win in the last 7.

Damn, pops, you didn’t need to drop your first pick all the way to #19! 😆

As for draft nights - Tuesdays and Wednesdays I have standing engagements I can’t miss so my general vote is against any Tuesday and Wednesday proposals and for basically any other option. That last weekend in September is wide open for me.

fun to look back at my team.

My keepers are
-the #2 goal scorer last year (Reinhart)
-the #3 goal scorer last year (Hyman)
-a 98 point winger (Nylander)
-an 82 point defenseman (Bouchard)
-the #1 overall pick last year (Bedard)

At a glance that doesn’t sound like a team that should be picking second overall.

(Looks at goalies)

Oh. There it is. :/
