Michael McLeod is currently waiting for his court date, not playing hockey in the NHL

He was the guy a lot of devils fans wanted before he got hurt and shelved for the next 1-2 months.
That's probably fair, he is signed and probably would re-sign but yeah he's done for a while. Then again he also wouldn't cost much and is a great playoff performer so who knows.

With the cap announcement, we’re going to see the biggest “percentage of Cap” increase going to 3Cs. Contenders especially, will all have those $5-$6 million 3Cs they used to have The “luxury” positions will finally return after taking the biggest hit over the last 5 years.

So guys like JT Compher, Gourde, Copp, etc, won’t be considered overpaid anymore. Took fans awhile to get used to the drop, and it’ll take them awhile to get used to the increase again. Backup goalies will get a nice kick too. Then you’ll see the 4/5 Dmen and the luxury veteran winger, who can still put up 15-20 goals. The biggest increase is going to go to 3Cs who can play up, and play a 200’ game though.

You win cups up the middle. So expect some contracts coming up this summer, and extensions, you wouldn’t think possible a year ago. It also adds value to some of these current overpaid 3C/2C types. A player like Copp for example, will become a target for contenders, if Detroit is out of it.

Noesen has been great around the front of the net.

However, I really like the edge he played with away from his comfort zone today.

He laid out a few guys today. It's good to see players develop, even if the player is older.

I don't understand the fetish posters have with "young" players.

It's like, "Hey, if you're 30 or older, you're too old to play hockey."

Heischer
Hughes
McLeod

Devils have fantastic centre depth. The two guys at the top are smaller, but both are great.
Hischier isn't small. McLeod is no Devils anymore and a big reason why the Devils need a 3C. I don't think he teturns to the NHL anytime soon.

Ottawa is not trading Pinto. He's our backup if Norris gets hurt. Pinto is off the table. He's Ottawas perfect 2/3c that every other team wants. He's signed, we have his rfa rights and no reason to be traded.

I don't see the Sens being sellers this time around. They are right in the thick of things in the playoff race. Sens will add

Ok , im sold on Evans . What’s the asking price?
Ideally semi-close prospects but not a lot of contenders have those. So probably a first since not many centers are going to hit the market and Evans is pretty underrated the way Lehkonen was.

I don't think Hughes bites on a second rounder+ this time around since the asset won't be ready for many years and a second isn't going to get you a replacement player of the same caliber as Evans when it's time to spend.

The waive of talent drops off around 15-20 range and there is lots of talk of the late 1st's being 2nd round values in this draft (when you compare to normal drafts). And 2nd rounders are more like your normal 3rd rounder. Bob M spoke to that in his mid season rankings. If you are going to trust anybody with that, I'd trust Bob.

If this is true, I rather extend Evans than trade him for a pick that has a chance to be an Evans in 3+ years (at best). The other approach with the Devils would be to get in a deeper trade. Evans comes as a sign/trade (lets say 4x or 5x $3.5M) and the Habs add the Flames 1st on top (probably 14-18 range). That's around where Bob said the next waive of talent drops. Of course, I'm targeting Nemec as the return. Probably willing to add a prospect on top as well (one of Beck or Mailloux). However, if Evans is available in a sign/trade, that is not a rental so if we add a pick from 14-18 range, that is very good value. Devils get a piece they need now (with term and a value contract) and they get a 1st in the back of that 2nd waive of talent in this draft.

Call me crazy but I decline a late 1st for Evans at this TDL. That's a typical 2nd from the normal drafts. It will take fans a bit to catch up but I can see a lot of late 1st and 2nd rounders offered at this TDL.

My trade offer is...
* Evans with extension (5x $3.5M)
* Flames 1st (14-18 range)
* Possible prospect added (one of Beck or Mailloux... Depending on what other teams offer us for Evans)
for
* Nemec
* 1 or 2 year cap dump.

I believe this is a workable trade for the Habs and Devils. Habs may be reaching with the prospect on top of Evans and the pick but the Devils don't really want to trade Nemec either.

Still on that, lol? It’s not going to happen.

Our counter offer is Kovacevic for Evans. Fitz said he not trading Nemec.

Yup. Some are open to it and some are not. I think that is the deal that the Habs would be interested in. Otherwise, we explore other options. I really don't think Gorton/Hughes are after late 1st and 2nd's in a weak draft that has a significant drop around the 20+ range. Not when we already have lots of picks.

Habs are not doing a pending UFA for a pending UFA. I think the Habs are delaying Evans extension because they want to see offers at the TDL first. That's my angle on it. Too steep of a price? I will wish you luck with others in your search

2026 1st with lottery protection? We might consider that.

What would the Devils offer for both Evans and Anderson?
* Evans with an extension (5x $3.5M)
* Anderson with 50% retention (2 more years at $2.75M)
* Habs can take back a contract dump (Haula maybe?)

I think these are the exact type of pieces the Devils are after.
