Teams have been calling about Ryan Strome according to TSN and their trade board. He won't be anyone's sexiest option, but he's solid veteran depth in that he can be plugged in anywhere in your top 9 as needed. He's currently being used as the 1C on Anaheim's makeshift top line with Vatrano and Terry. No one is acquiring him with that role in mind, but if he's on your third line as top six depth, you're in good shape. Pretty dependable all around player even if not a standout in any particular facet. Also apparently a consummate teammate. Two years remaining at 5M AAV, may be the sticking point

I don't see a trade for a rental plus returning a guy NJ almost certainly has penciled in for the right side on defense next season. Nemec isn't a player you move for pieces and parts at this point.

I would probably say Casey is probably a B+ prospect.

I think they are going to try and dump Hamilton and his contract this summer, at least I hope they do.

Hopefully they resign Kovy and move Hamilton . Pesce Nemec Kovy right side
Seigs Dillon Hughes left side . Casey traded for forward help. That’s what I want to see happen but I’m guessing Kovy walks , we stuck with Hamilton and Nemec and Casey battle it out for the last spot. Of the two. , I prefer to keep Nemec. Move Casey for someone like Boeser. Casey and a 2nd for Brock ( Boeser or Nelson lol ) however I can’t see Fitz giving up Casey plus pick(s) for rentals. Maybe if desperate enough and max retention?

Mercer has stagnated and is a ghost 80% of the time, and is even worse when he plays center.

Haula is currently out injured (but should be back soon), but he has been absolutely brutal this year.

if the + is celebrini, smith or askarov, nemec is on the table and they even can keep granlund.

it seems every other fan base automatically includes nemec as the return for whatever type of piece the devils fans want to acquire. at the same time we get to hear how low his value is right now. somehow ask and offer don't meet.

Colton is probably the best fit in this thread because he’s not too rich for the role (like Nelson or Norris), has some versatility and scoring ability (unlike a pure checking line C like Sissons) and the price from an asset standpoint wouldn’t be something ridiculous (like Mercer). And the Avs certainly seem in the mood to do deals at the moment. Moving Colton would give them flexibility to go after pieces that may fit better.

Why would the Avs give up Colton if they're not getting something equally good back, like Mercer?

What would be your offer if Mercer isn't included?

Why are some Devil fans in such a hurry to get rid of Mercer, injuries are piling up and they want to trade a dude who hasn't missed a single game in his 298 game NHL career away?

Ross Colton should be the target if they can get him without dealing Mercer.

If the Avs want to upgrade on Mittelstadt at 2C maybe he could be the 2C/3C the OP is looking for. As in, Colorado sends Mittelstadt to NJ for something, then uses those assets to create a package for another 2C.

I don't think Colton is an upgrade on Mercer so it's pointless to move him straight across. I don't think NJ has anything Colorado needs that NJ should part with.
