A before the season starts trade. Nj has a hole on the blueline with Larsson gone. We need a minute eater, preferably a vet. Chara is 39 but I see no reason why he can't remain effective for the remainder of his contract and he would make a good anchor for Santini.

To Boston:
Blandisi
Merrill
Conditional 2nd round pick (turns into a 1st round pick on the condition that the Devils make the playoffs.)

To Nj:
Chara

We could get Shattenkirk for that same haul giving the first

I don't know about that because I don't know much about him as a player.

Schnieder is in his prime, Hall and Henrique are entering their primes. Palmieri is in his prime. Zacha has a lot of potential. I have high hopes for Santini and Severson, Greene is solid, Lovejoy is reliable but I think we are missing something on the blueline.

Chara's age doesn't bother me and late 1st round picks are overrated.

New Jersey doesn't need Chara. He's too old, and declining fast. Chara is not the difference between playoffs or no playoffs. New Jersey should be trying to rebuild honestly. Even with Hall, their offence is still weak, and the defence is worse. They should be trading for young players.

Oh my god that's bad. Why on earth would a rebuilding team trade a potential top 6 forward, a second, and a defenseman for a 39 year old?

Neither team does this.

Even if Chara is worth that return, we need more than "blah" players. Need difference makers.

Boston would do this all day.
A bottom-pairing defenseman and a LW prospect the Bruins don't need as well as a pick for Chara which creates a hole in the Bruins top 4? Why do the Bruins do this trade again? The Bruins aren't going in a full blown rebuild, and even if Chara doesn't have a lot of value around the league, he has more value to the Bruins.

With two years left on his contract, I see no reason for the Bruins to trade him. If we value youth, the original proposal looks good in terms of value. But, honestly, Chara is still a very capable top pairing defenseman. He's not contributing quite as much as he used to offensively, but he still had a respectable year last season.
