Looking at TOI it looks like Tallinder will be the odd man out. He's just playing ES mins compared to Volch who played almost 8 minutes of PK along with Sal.

I've watched this several times and I still don't know how Kovy scored on the zero angle shot. Impressive snipe.

And I've already put a lot of Kovy love in this post, but I think it is awesome that Kovy has become a reliable penalty killer now. Last season I liked having him there because it made us a shorthanded threat, but I was still a bit nervous because I wasn't sure if he would keep his proper positioning.

Now, I feel very comfortable with him going out for a PK shift. He keeps the correct body positioning between the puck and the goal, he keeps his stick active in the lanes to break up passes, and he is excellent at pressuring the puck carrier. I recall him diving to clear the puck out of the zone during one of the PKs during the parade of penalties in the third period. Simply outstanding.

All around performer Kovy is best Kovy. And Deboer said during postgame that if it was anyone else with that angle on the OT goal, he would've questioned it. But not when Ilya has the puck.

Even though the TOI is a bit of an indicator, I'm not entirely sure about Tallinder being an odd man out. At least, not in the sense of benching him. Maybe if it means trading him, but he looked VERY solid yesterday on the puck. I kept noticing him when there were loose pucks, or we had the puck in our own zone and how well he handled the on coming forecheck, spinning away and safely moving the puck out, or whatever it may have been. I kept noticing him in that spot a lot with an oncoming forechecker and he handled it very well every time. No shaky passes, no poor decisions. Just a simple safe play to avoid the attack. Even though he's not getting tons of ice time as compared to others perhaps (maybe because of the special teams minutes), its definitely not a sign of his performance at least.

Not saying he is playing badly but I think he is the one being shopped around. No one is gonna touch Volch's contract.

Our depth is brutal right now, but it will be ok once Henrique comes back and Matteau's 5 games are up.

The lines will probably be:

Zubrus-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson
Tedenby-Josefson-Darche
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

That isn't bad if they can get a trade to replace Tedy, maybe give Butler a try, or even keep Matteau and sign someone to make Darche irrelevant. Still I like that lineup a hell of a lot more then what is being sent out there right now. Need to give JJ more talent to play with though, even if it means giving someone like Lil Gio more ice time to play on the third with him.

Have to agree. Tallinder played very well yesterday, especially bringing out the puck from the defensive zone.

Honestly I'm completely baffled with how that game ended up. The weird as **** double 5 on 3, the Caps tying it, the failed OT PP, the Greene open net miss, and then Kovy scoring at an absurd angle. Like wtf haha

Let's all say it together: "They don't ask how, they ask how many."

Ovechkin is not the Ovi from old but still, Tallinder shut him down completely.

The defence as a whole did pretty well keeping the Caps' dangerous forwards at bay. The only goals were a 5 on 3 where Marty had no chance, and a flubbed clear by Clarkson that went straight to Green.

Ovechkin and Backstrom were quiet for the most part.

Did they show the Sandy video again? Is that the Jersey video we're talking about?

It was nice to open the season like that, but if that video gets played every game, it's going to get old fast.

During one of the commercial breaks they played a longer version of the video. The first minute or so was the same, but I guess it was extended to have more of a montage for the second half of it. It was not in the opening like the first home game. I can see it getting tiring if they do this ever game. For the first few though its not bothering me. Especially if its during one of the commercials. Its that or another in-arena dance cam, so I'll take the Sandy video for now.

According to the Canadiens Pregame talk thread, the Devils still play the boring trap...

When you have been the nail compared to the Devils hammer since the mid 90s, you tend to cling to anything you can.

I admire the passion of the Habs fans and all, but when you have a fanbase that large, you're bound to have a lot of idiots.

We don't care. We own them. Hopefully that will continue tomorrow.

Marty owns them. I'd love to see him continue his hot start by destroying the Habs again.
