It bums me out josefeson didn't actually pass that puck to gionta. I really thought he did all night until I watched the highlights this morning. Great play tho. Glad he's turning it up.

Marty has been hands down our best player he's playing like the playoffs are still going on from last year.

The team so far has a tendency to start slow and Marty holds us in until they wake up.

The top 6 for the most part has been consistent at least 5 of them have. Elias,Kovalchuk,Zubrus,Zajac,Clarkson. Tedenby and Matteau have appeared in the top 6 at times as well as Josefson ( usually when the team is defending late in a game he gets put into the top 6 on Elias line )

Our depth is contributing the Carter-Gionta-Bernier line is steady just like the playoffs.

The defense is still solid but they have made their mistakes too just like most teams in this shortened season.

All in all though 3-0 with only 3 goals allowed. I'll take it.

That's damn good, I gotta be honest. we only let in 4 ourselves.

How's your PP and PK units holding so far? I'd guess your PK is top-notch, obviously

Why do people keep saying he didn't pass the puck? The play happened right in front of me, he knew Gionta was there, and swatted the puck with his stick toward his general direction as he was falling. If he didn't know he was there he would have swatted the puck toward the goal (which would have been easier) and not twisted around to swat the puck to his right side.

It looks like it was the Capital who hit the puck, not Josefson. Josefson's stick is in the air.

****ing Capitals deserved NOTHING from that game. They were terrible until we gave them the game in the 3rd.

Anyone that says they "earned" it are kidding themselves. The Devils needed to do nothing but get the puck to the red line and dump it in for 20 minutes. The Capitals weren't doing **** but the Devils gave them so many opportunities that their PP, no matter how ****** it had been performing, was bound to score.

Exactly. Well put. I was so mad when the game went to OT.

According to Josefson it's Hedbergs fault he isnt scoring. Apparently he's low in confidence because Hedberg is saving all his shots in practice

You may want to check a highlight.

Still a crazy play by jo though.

Oh, well that was a spectacular optical illusion then. You wouldn't even know that wasn't a pass unless you're looking for it.

I sure thought it was a pass in person. I was surprised looking at that replay, it looked perfect as a pass from my seat.

I'm seeing a lot of worry about how the team is playing, but you have to keep in mind that they're only 3 games into this thing with essentially no training camp to speak of. That 1 week dry run, if you will, is not nearly enough time to round into form. The good thing is that the foundation is still there. The Devils still look like a tough team to play against, but they're going to need help for sure. The team is just way too thin at forward. Adding Henrique will help balance things out better but something has to be done to address the holes that guys like Poni and Zach left. It's early and with a like Kovy, you can get by on 3 lines for some time. Kind of like the first half of last season I guess.

Our depth is brutal right now, but it will be ok once Henrique comes back and Matteau's 5 games are up.

The lines will probably be:

Zubrus-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson
Tedenby-Josefson-Darche
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

That 3rd line seems like a wasteland at wing though. Jacob, even with the lack of finish, is turning into a tremendous player. He can definitely anchor the third line and then some, but I just can't see Ted playing regularly for this team. DeBoer has no trust in him at all. I'll give Darche a chance before I make judgement, but there is no way this will be good enough to do some real damage.

I would not be surprised to see Butler on that third instead of Boo. Poor guy needs a psychologist.

Janssen or Barch will be playing, at least until it gets closer to playoffs. Tedenby 'and' Darche won't be here after Henrique gets back and Matteau gets sent back unless some other move gets made, not with eight defensemen, only one spare forward and two goons hanging around.

If they could somehow turn one of the D into a top six/top nine forward, then you got something.

Mmmm. I like.

Neuvirth looks so sad that they couldn't get the W after all he did to keep them in it.

I've watched this several times and I still don't know how Kovy scored on the zero angle shot. Impressive snipe.

Kovalchuk to my knowledge is leading the league in +/- at 7 total with 2 from tonight. Whatta guy.

Incredible statistic. He is still improving defensively with every day he spends as a Devil. It's amazing to watch the transformation still going.

It's not easy to replace Parise on the PK, but Yayo is looking like a good start. And then when Henrique comes back, oooh baby.

And I've already put a lot of Kovy love in this post, but I think it is awesome that Kovy has become a reliable penalty killer now. Last season I liked having him there because it made us a shorthanded threat, but I was still a bit nervous because I wasn't sure if he would keep his proper positioning.

Now, I feel very comfortable with him going out for a PK shift. He keeps the correct body positioning between the puck and the goal, he keeps his stick active in the lanes to break up passes, and he is excellent at pressuring the puck carrier. I recall him diving to clear the puck out of the zone during one of the PKs during the parade of penalties in the third period. Simply outstanding.

Honestly I'm completely baffled with how that game ended up. The weird as **** double 5 on 3, the Caps tying it, the failed OT PP, the Greene open net miss, and then Kovy scoring at an absurd angle. Like wtf haha
