Tedenby looks like he's scared to mess up. He was off the top line by the 3rd period, Josefson took his role. Aside from that, lines didn't change.

You clearly didn't watch tonight's game. Josefson was the best player on the ice other than Marty. Yes, he does everything but score, but he sure as shooting created the first goal and was all over the place the rest of the game.

Sounds like early-years Zajac. Jacobson's (:sarcasm:) a keeper and I love how DeBoer noticed how he was playing today and bumped him up to Kovy's line by the middle of the second period.

It's not easy to replace Parise on the PK, but Yayo is looking like a good start. And then when Henrique comes back, oooh baby.

This is why I say he can get away with not being an offensive player. He brings a lot of goods like strong defense, and he went 8 for 16 in the faceoff circle. He won some faceoffs on the PK too. Trav went 17 for 25. We actually won in faceoffs 33 to 28.

Not liking Kovy's 30+ minutes tonight, but we had a lot of special teams play tonight. Kovy is a fixture on both.

I don't think anybody likes Kovy logging so much ice time still. the only players that had more than him tonight were Mike Green and the goalies.

He can get away with it but I doubt it persists. Josefson is too good to end up as a grinder and he's got a fire this year that I haven't seen before out of him. I could barely be happier with his play this year.

I think he had already played 19+ through the first 2 periods. He had about 5 minutes more than Andy Greene at that time who was our leading defenseman in ice time through 2 periods. Sal led D men with 23+ ice time. Trav had 25+ tonight. Tallinder had 15, and change which is hardly anything. He even got some PP time.

Holy **** we had 8 shots in OT alone! Neuvirth was pretty good.

I was on the verge of throwing something at my TV after that 5th penalty in the third was called. My God was that hard to watch. Thank goodness Kovy stepped up in OT, otherwise I would be out shopping for a new one tomorrow. YaYo had an absolutely phenomenal game, probably our best player tonight. I wanted to see more of Matteau in this game but it's hard for him to get out there in the third when the team is killing penalties for half the time.

Overall an ugly, really ugly game but if the team can still manage two points and have room to improve I'm happy.

I think a large part of Kovy's minutes was the amount of power play time we had. He played over 9 minutes on the power play alone tonight. Next highest (of PP time) was about 5 1/2 minutes I think? That's a big part of the whole equation. He still would have led the team in minutes in all likelihood, but the gap wouldn't have been as large. That's what happens now that he is also useful as a penalty killer...

This was by far Teddy's worst game. Few more and u gotta give Butler a chance

Agreed, but I think when Henrique gets back Tedenby could be on the first bus back to Albany. If we keep Matteau there won't be room, if we don't keep Matteau but sign Darche there still won' t be. Unless someone is on LTIR or we trade a defenseman. I think if we do trade a defenseman though a forward will probably be coming back.

awww yea

I think Butler has to get a chance though. Im pretty sure Darche comes in when Matteau goes out (Thats what I think happens). And Henrique comes in for Teddy. Butler's only chance is if Darche isnt signed

Do you blame him?
The moment he ****s up this board will absolutely destroy him

Yeah that's what I think. Or in the case of an injury. I have a bad feeling though they'll bring up crap like Sestito if there's an injury again Rather than a skill player.

You can't play scared, if Tedenby has taken Petes challenges and turned it into fear then he simply isn't ready. I love Teddy and know there is a **** ton of talent in there. He needs to find out how to bring it out though, he's been given every chance up until this point.

Tedenby was brutal all night. Jake and Gionta were our two best forwards. Salvador and Greene also played strong games.

It's nice to see guys take nothing for granted and appreciate where they are. After the game outside the arena Gionta and Clarkson physically got out of their cars and went down the line signing for people. Great to see..

Tonight's game was kinda meh, but Kovy dishin' the sauce in OT is all ya need.

Great to see the boys finding ways to win early on despite the clear rustiness.

/my expert analysis

On a personal note, it was nice to attend a game with my folks. Haven't done that in a while. Funny to see my mom actually getting into hockey and getting visibly nervous during the OT.

I don't know how to properly assemble my thoughts, but here we go:

#1 first and foremost, I poached a casual Ranger fan to our side tonight. It was glorious. Felt better than the W.

#2 EVERY TEAM LOOKS SLOPPY RIGHT NOW. Man, you guys are harsh. Take a look around the league. It's awful hockey to watch. Only Chicago, to me, so far has been worth watching. Penalties are up, defense is down.
Special teams and defensive systems are the biggest victims of short camps. It'll get there.
And despite being 3-0 at least they know they're not playing well. The lack of complacency can't be overlooked. That's good.

#3 Guy who has never watched more than 10 minutes of hockey in his life kept asking me who #16 was. Josefson looks so good out there, please let Elias mentor him too.

#4 Backstrom, Giroux, Tavares all been held to 3 total combined shots. Not bad.
(Ovechkin with 2 tonight)

#5 Is it just me or does every game with a living social/groupon deal have a dud crowd? I was surrounded by too many people who were there just to be there.

That's all, I think.

I love Josefson's game right now. His skating is absolutely incredible and his work in the d-zone is excellent. I do wish he could finish some more of his chances like he had tonight, but I can't complain with the game he had.

Side note: Ovechkin sucks. I mean, do you guys realize how craptastic this guy is right now? He's an absolute hole in the d-zone, he's cherry picking constantly and he looks lost without the puck. His decline is actually quite remarkable. Guys have studied film, they know his game inside and out and he hasn't adapted. His time in the capital will not end well.

Trying to win over casual fans after the Cup Final appearance in this era of incredibly heightened public exposure for the NHL since the season wash in 2004-05.

I actually enjoy the presence of the casual fans. Granted, I jump on other fanbases for being fairweather, but when the Rock is full, it's easy to become a total hypocrite. Good atmosphere in Newark tonight (IMO) and two sellouts to start the campaign after the lockout. It would be wonderful to have that type of energy in the building every night.

Casual fans I welcome with open arms, that's no problem.
Maybe it was just my section. But I was sitting near a group of people who were clearly living social fiends and just buy up every deal they find. They were giving dirty looks to people who trying to get cheers started. That stuff drives me nuts.

I always get stuck near those types at Yankees games. Never really expect it at a hockey game.
